Weather conditions, which beguiled the cities around the league, forced abundant schedule changes forcing team to stay over to complete their series.

Montreal played the rubber game of a three game series with the New York Nets going with Floyd Diaz on the mound. Diaz went eight innings gave up two runs on seven hits walked two and struck out four to improve his record to 3-2 and lower his ERA to 3.97.


Rookie Earl Curry pitched the ninth inning allowing one hits to garner his eighth save of the season.

Diaz gave up a run in the bottom of the first inning on a run scoring double by Charlie Merson.

Montreal tied the score in the top of the second inning. Rookie Ty Maynard walked with the bases loaded forcing home Jim Belk who had the first of four singles for him in the game. Rookie Darryl Dillon also walked in the inning, and catcher Jose Rusie had a single to right field, that loaded the bases.

The Expos tallied two more runs in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead off New York starting pitcher Jake Pence. Pence (0-6) went five and third innings gave up three runs on nine hits walked four and fanned three.

Montreal added on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning.

Expos center fielder Dick Reyes reached on an infield single to begin the scoring rally. Newly acquired catcher Jeff Strange singled as a pinch hitter in his debut as an Expo. Reyes who had stolen second base scored on Strange's base hit.

Jim Bowman replaced Juan Diering.

Jim Craig reached on an infield single to shortstop and Jim Belk completed his perfect day at the plate with his fourth straight single driving in Strange.

George Aries singled and scored New York's other run in the eighth inning on a triple by Don Perritt.

The third stand out rookie in this game, Earl Curry, authored another scoreless ninth, for his eighth save.

Montreal won this series two games to one and are 5-1 against New York this season.

The winning pitcher was Lenny Gorsica 95-1) who gave the Expos seven scoreless innings scattering six hits striking out seven and walking three.

Tommy Fisher worked the eighth recording one strikeout and Earl Curry had another scoreless inning (0.68 ERA) picking up his 9th save. Moo Moos' starting pitcher March Infante went seven innings giving up three hits and one run, issued one walk and struck out six.

Montreal scored the first of its two runs in the fifth inning Greg Akers tripked and scored on a ground out by catcher Jose Rusie.

The Expos scored the games's only other run in the top of the ninth when Reyes walked and stole second and scored on an error by Jim Alston.
