Post by basilrathbonejr »

The Anaheim Aardvarks thirty-one year old lefty Mike Stein pitched eight shutout inning against the Boston Pantaloons allowing just two hits and one walk. Stein recorded five strikeouts.

Stein allowed only three baserunners. Ken Keupper led off the second inning with a single then Stein retired the next three batters. Boston's next baserunners were in the eighth inning, Stein's last inning. Stein walked Spencer Delaney and Clay McDonald singled.

The Anaheim defense turned in an excellent game in support of their left hander. Centerfielder Balvino Sember had five putouts. Shortstop Jeff Decker had two blue star plays (in the 2nd and 3rd inning) among his four assists and one putout.

Anaheim scored it's first run in the 3rd inning. Second baseman Tony Green popped out, Beryenyi walked third baseman Quito Carmona with one out, Sember singled to left field and Ed Hammond walked with one out. Fincher lined out for the second out. Carmona scored on a error by Boston pitcher Clem Berenyi.

1-0 Anaheim.

Anaheim scored an insurance run in the 6th inning on Greg Coleman's 3rd homerun.

Johnny Fitzgerald took over in the 9th for Stein and recorded his 3rd save.

Anaheim is now 15-14 tied with New York two games behind first place Toronto 17-12. Boston is in second place with a 16-13 record one game off the leader's pace.
