Aardvarks win rubber game against Boston

The Anaheim Aardvarks took the rubber game of their three game series at the Suspender Dome, in Boston, by a score of 6-4.
That win moved the Ardvarks moved into a tie for second with Boston and New York.

New York pounded the Chicago Black Bears 10-1 to stake their claim to second.

All three of the teams were helped by Washington's (15-15 -2) win over first place Toronto 17-13.

Thirty-three year old right hander Jim Colbert (3-1), the Anaheim starter, went seven innings allowed four runs on five hits, all earned struck out just one and walked three.

Veteran bullpenner Tommy Hockette worked the final two innings giving up no runs on one it with one strikeout for his second save.

It was the tenth save of the year for the Anaheim bullpen in thirteen chances. Four pitchers (Greg Washington 3 of 5), Henry Medwick (3 of 4), Johnny Fitzgerald (2 of 2) and Hockette (2 of 2) have recorded save fir thr Ards out of that bullepn.

Anaheim scored four runs on ten hits in the game and the first four came via a homerun by 2b Tony Green.

Green hit a lead-off homerun in the top of the 1st inning, his 4th of the season. Green's fifth came in the 5th inning with his team trailing 3-1, with two on. Both were off Boston's starter Don Dellucci (LP 2-2) giving Anaheim a 4-3 lead.

Boston had tied the game 1-1 in the second inning on a single to right field by Ken Keupper and a double that sent the runner to 3b by Bill Heinzman. Keupper scored on a ground out by Keith Tucker.

The same part of Boston's batting order put them ahead in the 4th inning with two more runs.

Two walks hurt Colbert in that inning. Keupper and Heinman walked with no outs and Clint Allen singled in Keupper. Heinzman scored on a 4-6-3 double play. 3-1 Boston but the double play started by Green kept them from getting more.

Kid Nichols, Boston's third pitcher gave up two runs in the 8th that about sealed it for Anaheim.

Nichols walked Anaheim catcher Gus Adams and Greg Coleman lashed a tripled to deep left venter field. Coleman cam in on a double to right by Ed Hammond.

That was it for the scoring because Hockette shut Boston out over the final two inning on one hit getting one strikeout.
