Chicago takes rubber game of Dodger series 8-6

12 INNINGS

Los Angeles is now 1-2 in extra innings and Chicago is now 1-4.

Jack Raudman of the Dodgers went five for five in the game and reached a sixth time on a walk for a cycle. The cycle was the first of Raudman's career.

Los Angeles took game two of the series 7-4 to set up a rubber game in game three that was started by Randy McBride for Chicago and Pat Willaims for the Dodgers.

Chicago struck first in the second inning scoring three times. Elmer Anderson hit a solo homerun off Williams, his 2nd with no one on or out. Mike Townsend added a run scoring single and McBride drove in Emmitt Brown with run number three with a ground out.

Back to back homeruns by the Dodgers' Jack Raudman (5th) and Jimmy Brown (2nd), off McBride, cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the 2nd.

Los Angeles took a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Roric Burrows walked and stole second off the struggling McBride. Joe Hlbert singled him in to tie the game 3-3.Raudman triples in Burrows to put the Dodgers ahead 4-3 after 5 innings.

Ray Markell replace McBride after the fourth inning (4IP 6H 4R/4ER 5BB/2SO).

Markell gave up a single to Burrows and a two out walk to Raudman then got Jimmy Brown to ground out to shortstop John Honeycutt to end the 5th. Markell got the Dodgers out JONin order in the 6th and gave way to Don Jones in the 7th.

Jones issued two walks in the 7th, the first to pinch hitter Tom Prall with no outs and to Burrows after Prall had been caught stealing by catcher Randy Gilbert. Jones posted two strikeouts, Jim Kepshire and Joe Holbert.

Los Angeles lad 4-3 after seven innngs.

Both teams scored a run in the 8th inning. Chicago tied the game 4-4 in the top of the 8th off Dodger starter Pat Williams (7.2IP 7H 4R/4ER 4BB/4SO).. A two out single by John honeycutt off Williams started the rlly. Honeycutt stole second base.

Ben Boggsa replaced Williams and gave up the game tyoing single to Elmer Anderson.

Anderson stole second but got greedy and was caught stealing third by Dan Garcia.

The Dodgers came right back to take a 5-4 lead. Raudman hit his second triple of the game in the bottom of the 8th and scored the tying run on a Jimmy Brown single.

Chicago took a 6-5 lead in the top of the 9th off Tom Nieves. Gilbert singled to left. McAllister goubled to right field droiving in Gilbert to tie the game 5-5.

Emmitt Brown singled to center field scoring Mallister with run number six for Chicago....6-5 Whips!

It was not over!!

The Dodgers scored a run in the 9th to tie the game 6-6 off Hyrim Castino. Tom Krall struck out. Kepshire and Burrows hit consecutive singles putting runners on the corners. Raudman's fifth hit, the single in the cycle, tied the game. Raudman had two triples, a homerun, a double, a single and a walk, scored two runs and drove in three.

Chicago took a 8-6 lead in the top of the 12th inning on a two out single by Ed Woodson and a walk to honeycutt by Lou Larkin. Ray Eiteljorge replaced Larkin, the losing pitcher and gave up a go ahead two run triple to Elmer Anderson.

The last pitcher avaialable in the bullpen for Chicago, Gene Burton, who had been ineffective of late (11.25 ERA in his last four appearances) came in to save it for Chicago f he could.

Raudman continued to sizzle in the game getting his fifth hit, a lead off double that completed the cycle for the Dodger thrid baeman. Brown grounded to first sending Raudman to third base. Raudman held at third when Garcia flied out to left foielder Ed Woodson in short left field. But the Dodgers were out of inch hitters and Eiteljorge, the pitcher had to bad for himself, to the anguish of the crowd. He grounded out to Townsend at second to end the marathon game.

Chicago won the game 8-6 and the series two games to one.

*Raudman's five hits and one walk gave his 14 total bases in the game, the most for any player in a game this season.
