Brooklyn won its third straight game taking down the Philadelphia Phillies 8-3 in the first game of a three game set in the City Of Brotherly Love.

Brooklyn scored four runs on five hits in the top of the first inning off Phillies starting pitcher Bob Butler. Butler last just four innings allowing five runs on eight hits to take the loss (1-3).

The trouble for Butler began with a one out single by shortstop Clint Gould. Aaron Fowler followed with another single sending Gould to third base where he scored on the Dodgers third straight single, this one by Ted Boone. Boone stole second base before Chris Bales singled in both runners. Bales was caught stealing denying the Dodgers a fifth run when Gus Prothro hit his seventh homewrun of the season off Butler (5th allowed in 81.1 innings pitched). Left fielder Dave Mack, the seventh batter of the inning, grounded to second to end it.

4-0 Brooklyn.

The Phillies cut two runs off that lead in the bottom of the second inning. Allanson engineered his own problems by walking Gordie Kimber and Aaron Brillheart, the first two batters of the inning. Harry Johnson sent a hot smash past Ted Boone at third base for a run scoring single that sent Brillheart to third base where he tagged up and scored on a fly ball to left field by Eric Anderson.

4-2 Brooklyn.

The hot hitting Dodgers reclaimed one of thise runs in the top of the third inning. Boone, who reacehd on a fielder's choice and stole second base scored on a single by Chris Bales.to make it 5-2 Brooklyn.

Allanson gave up Philadelphia' third and final run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Luke Cantwell drove in Harry Johnson who had singled with one out to make the socred 5-3.

Allanson settled down and shut out Philadelphia on three his the remeained of the game to go the distance for the second time this season improving to 4-3. Allanson walked foir, only one afyer the thrid inning striking out seven.

Brooklyn added on three runs via the three solo homeruns.

Clint Gould made it 6-3 with his second homerun of the season in the top of the fifth off James Geraghty (second allowed in 29.0 innings pitched).

Catcher Red Scott hit two in the game to give him four for the season. The first game in the top of the seventh and came off Roy Rogge, the third off Rogge in 33.1 innings pitched. Scott's second homerun came in the ninth inning and he hit it off Kevin Holiday, the second hit off Holiday this season in five innings pitched.

After the game the Dodgers announced that had completed a trade with Los Angeles. The Dodgers traded pitcher Gene Crompton (2-3 6.26) and shortstop Clint Gould (.500 2 homers 4 RBI) to Los Angeles for first baseman Roger Carney (.235 5 20) and minor league third baseman Mike Turley.
