@ Minneapolis Moose Stadium ... July 8, 1950

Boston began its first road trip of the season in Minneapolis where the 1-2 Minneapolis Moose celebrated their home opener before a capacity crowd of 35,500 in chilly weather.

Minnesota starter Don Delahanty surrendered a first inning run to Boston when Scott Bowman led off with a triple and scored on a one out double by Hal Crompton.

Minnesota came back to tie the game with, a lead off triple, by Scott Easter, off Boston starter Adrain Thompson. Boston brought the infield in but to no avail as Ervin Young doubled in the run.

Joe Curtright and Larry Kling go Boston off to a good start in the third inning with singles to start the frame putting runners on first and third. Delahanty prevented a big inning by getting Jessie Long to hit into a double play that scored Curtright giving the Beaneaters a 2-1 lead.

They added a run in the third when Crompton singled leding off and emmediatly stole second. Delahanty walked Putnam with one out and gave up a run scoring double to Curtright making the score 3-1.

Minnesota tied the game with solo homeruns by Jake Basinski in the sixth inning nad Rich McCarthy in the seventh.

Willie Perez, the losing pitcherr, took over to strt the eighth inning and did not retire any of the three batters he faced. Catcher Don Putnam lined a double to left. Curtright collected his third hit of the game, a single to center field advancing Putnam to third base.Curtright stole his second base of the game putting runners on second and third. Both runners scored on a double by Larry Kling. Kling scored on pitcher Adrian Thompson's single to left field upping the score to 6-3 Boston.

Minnesota cut the lead to 6-5 with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Young walked and scored on a triple by Mike ManningAfter a pitching change bringing in left hander Lyle Clay Bill Gabler singled driving in Manning. Clay struck out McCarthy to end the threat.

Boston did not socre in their half of the ninth leaving it up to closer Marty Puccinell to protect a one run lead he did for his first save.

Boston starts the season 3-1.

Kansas City Royals 3 Detroit 1

After droppping two of three to open the season, Detroit hosed Kansas City in their home opener in hopes of evening their record.

However Johnny Gorson collected three hits and drove on one of the Roysls three runs with a fifth inning triple (a lot of triples to open the season all over the league) to score Jimmy Kellehar.

Tom Fisher had a RBI single in the sixth and Roger Redmond a run scoring single in the seventh.

The Royals Tony Browne went seven innings for the win giving up nine hits and just one run walking two and striking out four. Hal Schaffer picked up his first save with a socreless hitless ninth and the Royalks start 3-1.
