Fredi Gonzalez League Recap

Post by jacktoast »

The 13-6 Boston Beaneaters completed a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde road trip with a 3-3 record, first sweeping Baltimore, then getting swept by Anaheim. Detroit, now 12-7, after its ten game winning streak was concluded, has now lost four of five, but is just one game behind Boston in second place. Third place Minnesota is 10-9 winning eight of ten and two straight.

Eighth place Baltimore has rebounded somewhat winning three straight (longest active winning streak in the league). The Terrapins broke a seven game skid defeating the Yankees 5-3 and 11-4 in the final two games of that series and opened a three game set with a 3-0 shutout win over Seattle. Bruce Moynahan threw three hit shutout innings before turning matters over to Keith Torrez who earned his fist save with a scoreless ninth inning.

Julio McCoy went seven scoreless innings for Baltimore before Kid Fox came in in the eighth. Baltimore finally took charge in the bottom of the eighth, off Fox, first scoring on a bases loaded walked to Duane Boak, a ground out by Marv Avery and a single by Jorge Tresh.

Two of the runs were unearned due to an error by third baseman Dutch Holton. Fox took the loss (1-2).
