The Florida Stingrays made two trades on August 5, 1951 acquiring second baseman Bill Keegan and minor league pitcher Hector Lazzeri from New York for infielder Ralph Fernandez (261 1 4) and first baseman Jim Robertson (.294 1 Hr. 1 RBI).

In the other trade the Stingrays added starting pitcher Jim Herring (2-4 4.86), first baseman/outfielder Dick Peek and minor league outfielder Bill Karcher and minor league pitcher Mark Leard sending 24 year old first baseman Wally Brito (.241 2 422 year old pitcher Jim Buzhardt (0-1 .675 ERA) 24 year old 2B/SS Jackie Poindexter and 24 year old pitcher Gary Morgan, all assigned to Tampa Bay's AA team in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The St. Louis Stars at 19-11 hold a three game lead over Florida, 16-13.

Montreal and New York are one game behind Florida (15-14) followed by Milwaukee, Brooklyn, and Pittsburgh 14-14 five games off lead and San Francisco is minus ten games (9-20).

Florida 7 San Francisco 3

The Sting Rays picked up a road win taking advantage of slumping San Francisco 7-3.

SF starting pitcher Bob Kuszynski gave up a run in the top of the first to Florida when Lou Brouthers on after he reached on a fielders choice, stole second base, went to third on a ground out, then able to score on an infield single by Elmer Greisinger.

The Rays added a run in the 3rd when Brouthers singled to left field, stole his second base of the game went to third on an error by catcher Eddie Sheldon. Brouthers scored on a two out triple by Greisinger who was left at third.

2-0 Florida.

San Francisco showed some fight in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they tied the game on two doubles by Barry Masterson and Mike Blewitt and a RBI single by Erik Kelleher.

Florida re-took the lead in the top of the 4th inning.

Bobby Smith collected the third of three infield singles the Rays had in the game. Smith stole second. Catcher Ray Jacquez singled him in.

3-2 Florida.

Florida iced the game in the 6th with four runs. The Rays opened the inning with three straight singles by Greisinger, Fausto Gonzalez and Smith for the first run. Ralph Fernandez walked to load the bases prompting a pitching change bringing in Vance Ankiel who walked Jacquez to force home run number two of the inning (Gonzalez) Smith scored on a ground out by Goodfellow, the pitcher and Fernandez scored n a sacrifice fly by Jeff Garcetti.

7-2 Florida.

Art Edwards hit a solo homerun for San Francisco in the 7th to make the final score 7-3.

Craig Goodfellow put and end to a three game losing streak for Florida going 8 innings giving up 9 hits and 3 earned runs with 1 base on ball and 5 strikeouts. to improve to 6-1 on the season. It was Goodfellow's sixth straight victory.
