The Mets have movedup to fourth place with their eighth straight win and ninth win in their last ten games. Reliever Woody Lynch (1-0) got the win in his National League debut. Lynch was acquired from Detroit with OF Frank Gonzalez on August 28. Lynch facewd just one batter albeit a very important one; Derek McCredie, with two outs in the 8th inning and got him to ground out to second baseman Frank Thompson.

Right hander Bob Clinton started for New York and logged 7.2 innings gave up 6 hits and 3 runs did not walk a batter and recorded 9 strikeouts.

Ron Welchonce filled in for George Escarrega and picked up his 6th save tying him with Escarrega in saves. Both are solid closers and both will be wanting to be the regular closer next season.

Houston led 1-0 after one inning when Terry Remmerswaal doubled to right foeld, moved to third on a fielding erro by shortstop Scott Monroe and scored on a ground out to first Bill Garber.

Garber hit his 10th homerun in the 4th odd Jackie Moore with one out to tie the game 1-1.

Jim Lonergan put the Mets in front 2-1 with his 3rd of the season in the 5th inning with two out. It was the seventh homerun allowed by Moore this season and the 22nd allowed in two season by Moore,

Jim Otis hit a two run homerun for Houston in the 8th to put Houston in front 3-2.

The Gunslingers could not hold it long however.

New York rallied in the bottom of the 8th. Klondike LaRose singled and stole second with one out..Mike Sanford drove him in with the tying run with a double. Sanford scored the go ahead run when pinch hitter Fred Easterwood singled.
