Colorado Grizzlies 5 Los Angeles Desperados 2

The Colorado Grizzlies continued to get excellent pitching to go 4-0. Colorado is the only undefeated team left in the National League. The Chicago White Hawks are 4-0 in the American League.

Matt Barry followed Glenn Gardner, Gil Crespi and Jeoff Stewart in the rotation. The previous trio had given up a total of five run over twenty-three innings pitched (1.96 ERA). Barry did not let them down going eight and a third hitless innings before surrendering back to back homeruns to Tuck Scranton and Yale Curtis with one out in the ninth inning.

Barry walked Glenn Austin signaling that he was all done bringing in Casey Hayworth to get the final out.

Hayworth got Johnny Mills to fly out to right fielder Trace Woodson to end the game and presenting Hayworth with his fourth save in four games this season.

Colorado manager Don Taylor said, ''If we can get anywhere close to this kind of pitching consistently this season we will be fine. Our hitting (.281 team batting average) hasn't been bad either.''

Colorado had eleven hits and five runs off Los Angeles starter Art Hogan and three relievers. Hogan gave up five runs on eight hits in just four and two-thirds innings. The Los Angeles bullpen consisting of Quilvio Hoover, Jim Smith and Normie Feine, covered four and a third innings allowing no runs on four hits.

Colorado got its initial run in the second inning on left fielder John Gearin's homerun to deep left field off Hogan, the first hit by Gearin this season and the first allowed by Hogan, the losing pitcher.

Colorzado exploded for four runs knocking out Hogan in the fifth inning. Paul McGhee and Harlin Donlin opened the inning with singlesputting runners on forst and third. Donlin stole second disriupting Hogan enough that he walked Carlton Moore to load the bases. Hogan struck out Curt Kremmel for the first out.Colorado third baseman Mike Garner doubled to left center field clearing the bases. Gearin grounded to hsort for the second out but catcher Luis Fuentes singled in the fourth and final run of the inning. Hogan departed and Quilvio Hoover snuffed out the rally.

Colorado led 5-0 and that would be all the scoring for Colorado.

Los Angeles scored two in the ninth on the back to back homeruns by Scranton and Curtis that broke up the no hitter before Hayworth came in to close out Colorado's fourth win with his fourth save.
