GRIZZLIES 8 SAN DIEGO 3

The NL race is present a three team race with Colorado and Los Angeles tied in the top spot with 22-15 records and one game in front of San Francisco. Los Angeles has won six straight to thrust itself right into the middle of things.

Glen Gardner pitched the Grizzlies to a 8-3 victory over San Diego for his fourth straight win in a streak that he has accumulated 31 innings pitched, 29 hits, 4 runs, 10 walks and 31 strikeouts. Gardner is now 5-3 with a 2.47.

The Grizzlies pounced on twenty-three year old San Dioego right handrr Clayton Richard in the second inning despite Richard striking out the side. Mike Garner drew a lead off walk and stole second base, Moore struck out, Harlin Donlin doubled to left field driving in Garner. Richard struck out Mackinson for the second out beforejim Garrett singled to left driving in Donlin with the second run before Gardner struck out to end the inning.

San Diego cut the lead in half in the 4th inning on two hits, a single by Eric Hosmer and a run scoring double by Tony Gwynn. Gardner recorded two strikeout in the inning.

Colorado broke the game open in the 5th on a grand slam homerun by Paul McGhee. Richard issued walks to Jim Garrett and Gil Mota with one out and Guillermo beat out a dribbler upo the first base line to load the bases before McGhee's blast.

Colorado added two runs on a walk and stolen base, a triple by Bill Mackiknson and a ground out by Garrett.

Los Angeles 4 San Francisco 0

Los Angeles defeated San Francisco 4-0 in ten innings 4-0 to put themselves in a tie for first place with Colorado and drop the Giants one game back.

Derek Wilson went nine innings allowed three hits and no runs walked three and struck out five for the win. Willie Rapp pitched the scoreless 10th for the Desperados after they had taken the lead 4-0.

John Harris surrendered three of the four runs in the tenth after shutting out the Desperados over the first nine inning in a tense pitching duel with Wilson. Harris the loser is now 6-1 and Wilson with the win improved to 6-0.

The 10th began with a single by Bud Sauvier. Steve Merritt homered putting Los Angeles ahead 2-0. Harris hit Glenn Austin with a pitch setting off a rhubarb that last three minutes but resulted in no one getting tossed. however after Harris struck out Ed Sipin, George Larkin replace Harris.

Clingman grounded to third and Johnny Mills doubled in the third run (Austin).

Pinch hitter Turk Stanton batting for Wilson, singled in the final run to make the final 4-0 following Rapp getting the side out in the bottom of the 9th.
