BROOKLYN 4 PITTSBURGH 2

Tom Austin hit his 10th homerun in the 2nd inning of losing pitcher George Castiino (3-2) and Brooklyn added on three more in the third on a RBI double by Andy Gumbert and two more coming in on an error by center fielder Willie Garcek giving Brooklyn's starting pitcher Art Cusick comfortable 4-2 lead to work with after three innings.

Cusick went 7 innings (5 hits 2 runs 2 walks 6 strikeouts) to post his 6th win without a loss with relief help from Buck Kranepool in the 8th and Hank Sweetland in the 9th for his 9th save.
George Castino went the distance in the losing cause giving up five hits four runs (two earned) walked one and struck out four.

Cusick also contributed with his bat going two for three with his second double of the season.

Brooklyn at 19-21 in 6th place has won four in a row.

SAN DIEGO PADRES 6 LOS ANGELES DESPERADOS 3

Freddy Galvis, Austin Hedges and Big Hurt Denbone were the big bats in the Padres 10 hit attack.

Galvis tripled in the first inning off Los Angeles starting pitcher Tom Smith and scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly by Denbone. Austin Hedges hit the Padres second triple with two out in the inning and he scored on a double by Manuel Margot. 2-0 Padres.


Galvis went back to it in the 3rd inning with a single to right field. Denbone followed with a single to center putting runners on the corners. Hedges' RBI ground out made the score 3-0.

Los Angeles showed some life in the 6th inning. Pitcher Tom Smith singled to left field, Snow singled to right, and Bud Sarcuer walked with one out to load the bases off Clayton Richard. Steve Merritt's groundout produced the first Desperado run. Glenn Austin tied the game with a two run single.

Big Hurt Denbone and Austin Hedges had singles in the 8th inning off Tom Smith putting runners on the corners. Smith departed replaced by Normie Feine.

Hosmer launched a sacrifice fly to score Denbone and Tony Gwynn doubled with two outs scoring Hedges and Margot

Richard went 8 inning to break a personal three game losing streak giving up 5 hits 3 ruins 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.

Jordon Lyles garnered his 6th save with a scoreless 9th inning.

COLORADO 3 ST. LOUIS 0

Jeoff Stwwart wnert eight shutout innings ascattering six hits walked 2 and fanned seven to post his fifth win versus two losses.

Venegar Bend mizell was outstanding in defeat going seven innikngs four hits one run three walks and five strikeouts.

Carlton Moore gave Colorado the lead in the 2nd inning with hius 7th home run of the season.

That 1-0 score held up until the 9th inning when relief pitcher Marshall Bridges gave up a two run homerun to Harlin Donlin.

A well rested Casey Hayworth picked up his 8th save in the 9th inning.
