The Colorado Grizzlies took two of three from St Louis in St Louis which dropped the Perfectos to the .500 mark (21-21) tied with two other teams for third place. One of the teams the Perfectos are tied with, San Diego, has won three straight over the Los Angeles Desperados tied with San Francisco Giants for second. San Francisco lost vtwo of three in Philadelphia. John Callisojn (6-2) went eight innings in the finale to salvage one for the Giants over the Pioneers.

The first place Colorado Grizzlies made a trade to bolster their bullpen sending Reliever jim Taylor (2-0 7.71, seldom used second baseman Snuffy Stirnweiss (.188 0 1) and minor league outfielder Joe Ford to Seattle for utility man Chip Perkowski (.244 2 17) and pitxher Dave Holman on the disabled list foir nine more days after being injured July 22 in his fourth start of the season.

Colorado brought up starting pitcher George Cunningham and moved Eric Hooper to the bullpen. George Gieger and Derek Walker are on notice due to the north of 6 and 7 ERA that 24 year old right hander Woody Kazanski is just a phone call away. The move to the bullpen for Hooper who has pitched much better of late paid off in the late innings.

Ernie Broglio started the game for the Perfectos. Broglio gave up three runs on three hits and the Griz left two aboard to take a 3-0 lead. Gil Mota led off the game with a single. Guillermo Almedia grounded to second base, runner to third base, one out. Paul McGhee grounded to first scoring the run. 1-0 Colorado.

Broglio and Matt Barry, the starting pitchers kept the score right there through five innings both getting steady if unspectacular defense behind them Colorado turned double plays in the second and 4th inning and St. Louis runed one in the second.

Colorado leading 1-0 going into the 6th inning broke the game open with three runs. Guillermo Almeida singled to open the inning. McGhee walked. Broglio struck out Carlton Moore. Mike Garner, starting at first base now, in order to get in the lineup, singled in Almeida. Catcher Jim Garrett walked. and new acquisation Chip Perkowski singled in two runs for his new team to put them in charge 4-0.

St Louis came back to get one run in the bottom of the 6th off Barry. Don Blasingame singled and stole second base. Curt Flood grounded to second, Blasingame to third base. Bill White got the run home with another infield out, another grounder to second base.

Barry went eight innings gave up five hitsone run one walk and struck out five.

Eric hooper made his firstvrelief appearance of the season and to say he was ampted up would be an understatement. Flood grounded to thrid. Hopper walked Bill White. Hooper walked Hal Smith, but came back to strikeout the great Stan Musial, then walked Kenny Boyer and ended it by striking out Alex Grammas.
