12 INNINGS

Colorado is now 2-6 in extra innings.

The last place (14-35) Pioneers are 1-1 in extra innings.

Colorado threatened in the first inning but did not score off Chico Everitt. Mota struck out Guillermo Almeida walked, stole second base went to third base on a throwing error on Pioneers catcher Luther Gomez. Everitt struck out Paul McGhee and got out of the inning by getting Carlton Moore to fly out to right fielder Hal Lugo.

Jeff Stewart gave up a run in the bottom of the first in part of some loose defense. Luther Gomez singled to left field. Joe Isales reached on a two base throwing error on Paul McGhee. Gomez scored on a ground out to McGhee.

1-0 Philadelphia.

Curt Kremmel tied the game 1-1 in the 5th inning with his 4th homerun, the 6th allowed by Everitt.

Philadelphia re-took the lead with a run in the bottom of that inning when Stewart issued a lead-off walk to Pete French. Lugo singled to left field sending French to third base. Pitcher Chico Everitt hit into a 4-6-3 double play that stalled out the inning but scored French with the go-ahead run.

McGhee made up for his earlier error by drawing a walk and stealing second base. Everitt struck out both Carlton Moore and Harlin Donlin. Mike Garner singled off Everitt's glove, Curt Kremmel, making a strong case for more playing time, walked to load the bases. Jim Garrett walked to force in a run carried by McGhee. 2-2.

Stewart gave up another key walk to Mike Whisenton leading off the 7th inning. French struck out. Lugo field out to leftfield. Everitt singled sending Whisenton to third base. Luther Gomez singled to right field driving in the go-ahead run.

Philadelphia 3-2.

Johnny Stewart came in to pitch for Philadelphia.

Kremmel singled to left and stole second base just ahead of a good throw by Gomez (A+ ARM). Garrett walked. Pinch hitter Chip Perkowski drounded into a 6-4-3 double play. John Gearin, who entered the game in the 7th inning as a defensive replacement, doubled driving in Kremmel tying the game 3-3.

Stewart left after 8 innings. (6 hits 3 runs 3 walks 9 strikeouts).

Derek Walker took over for 2.1 innngs 2 hits 0 runs 2 walks 2 strikeouts).

Walker set down seven batters in a row until Ollie Hodapp singled startng the 11th, then he struck out Howie DAeal, and walked Al Castillo causing Eric Hooper to replace.

Hopper retired French on a flyball to right and Joe Bokina on an infield pop out to keep the game tied 3-3..

Jesse Kelly pitched the 10th and 11th innings, striking out three of the six batters he faced, and was on the mound to start the 12th inning for Philadelphia. Pinch hitter Luis Fuentes, batting for pitcher Eric Hooper, doubled to left field. and stole third base. John Gearin the defensive replacement got his seond hit of the game a single driving in Fuentes with the go-ahead run. Gearin stole second base, the 8th stolen base of this game for Colorado off an A+ armed catcher (Gomez). McGhee grounded out to second. Moore singled past shortstop Howie Deal scoring Gearin with an insurance run for Casey Hayworth who picked up his 10th save.

Hooper was the winning pitcher (2-4). The losing pitcher was Jesse Kelly (1-4).
