Giants 6 Chops 3 New York takes series two games to one

Post by jimbowie »

After dropping game two of the series 1-0 and managing only five paltry singles the Giants reinvigorated themselves and responded with six runs on eleven hits including a double, a triple and three homeruns off Baltimore starter Mahlon Ibanez and three relievers.

Ibanez went seven innings allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits and four walks and striking out four.

Bill Ross started for the Giants and he also got a no decision after being taken out after six innings being charged with three runs on seven hits and one walk striking out seven.

Left fielder Jimmy Howe continued to carry the New York offense muscling up for two solo homeruns, his fourth and fifth of the season. Howe's first four bagger came in the first inning and put New York in front 1-0.

The Giants added a second run in the second inning thanks to some shaky fielding by the Chops. Roger Cardenal reached on an error by first baseman Buck Bones. Joe Sisler was robbed of a hit by third baseman Hy Bell. Cardenal advanced to second on the play. one out later Ibanez walked Jim Williams to pitch to pitcher Bill Ross and his defense let him down once again as Ross reached on a two-base-throwing error on shortstop Clyde Heath that scored Cardenal.

Wiki Tauscher's first homerun of the season tied the game 2-2 with a bomb to left with Bones aboard in the second.

Howe went back to work and hit his second of the game in the third to give the Giants a 3-2 lead.

Jay Garibaldi's run scoring double tied the game 3-3 in the bottom of the third inning.

After all the fireworks in the first three innings both pitchers settled down and kept the other team off the scoreboard until the seventh inning.

Ross gave way to Pat Buxton in the seventh. Ibanez went seven innings before turning things over to Oscar Charboneau in the eight. Charboneau allowed a leadoff double to Cardenal and a run scoring single to Joe Sisler putting New York in front 4-3.

Catcher Charlie Brown hit a two run last (1st) in the eighth to make the score 6-3.

Buxton worked a scoreless seventh for New York and Ray Waszgis set things up for closer Tim Chagnon with a scoreless eighth. Chagnon, needing a good outing claimed his seventh save.

New York continues its road trip by traveling to the nation's capital, Washington, to play Compton's Senators. Two pitcher seeking their first win of the season will oppose each other Chad Wood (0-3) for New York and Kevin Mmahat (0-1) for Washington.
