Milwaukee 7 San Francisco 6

Milwaukee opened a series at home against the last place San Francisco Golden Giblets. The match up was ideal for Milwaukee to pick up a game on one of the two leaders if they took care of their business.

Milwaukee has won seven of its last ten and after this win they have won two straight, while the Giblets have been the exact opposite losing seven of ten and two straight.

Frank Higgons started for San Frisco and went 6 innings allowing 6 hits and 4 runs, all earned, striking out 6 and walking 3 walks. Higgons did not figure in the final decision.

San Francisco scored the game's first run off Milwaukee starting pitcher Gabe King. King issued the only walk he doled out to Ossie Henley who stole second base and scored on a single by Al Johnson with no one out. King retired the next three straight to avoid any further scoring.

1-0 San Francisco

Like a couple of games [played on this date, this game was a back and forth affair. Milwaukee scored two runs in their half of the 2nd inning on singles by Paul Brickell and Benny Castro that put riunners on forst and third with no one out. Larry Young standed both runners in place by striking out looking. Castro was caught stealing for the second out and the inning seemed all but doomed. Roberto Gomez changed all that by doubling in Brickell and catcher Bud Difelice followed him with the second double of the inning driving in Gomez for a 2-1 Milwaukee lead.

San Francisco tied the game 2-2 in their half of the 3rd inning. Picher Frank Higgons struck out to start the inning. Dan Jones singled with one out. Nourse struck out swinging for the second out but Jones was safe at second on a stolen base (9th) With one out Roland Wojcik singled in Jones to tie the game 2-2. Wojcik was caught stealing to end the inning.

Milwaukee starting pitcher, Gabe King, walked to start the 6th, stole second base (his 3rd stolen base of the season. King has excellent speed (A-)). Tim Compton's groind out to Dan Jones at first moved King to third. Ralph Pettit got King in to score with another productive infield ground out to Jones. With two outs Corbin scored on Paul Brickell's triple (first of the season). Castro struck out to end the inning.

4-2 Milwaukee.

San Francisco scored single runs in the 6th and 7th innings to tie the game 6-6.

A sacrifice fly by Al Johnson got the Giblets 6th inning runin and a pinch hit RBI single by Ed Malay tied the game 4-4 in the 7th.

Tim Crompton's solo homerun with one out (7th) off Swede Williams (3rd allowed by Williams in 44 inings pitched) gave Milwaukee a 5-4 lead that would not stand up for long.

Rabbit Garciaparra (7th) put San Francisco back in front 6-5 with a two run homerun off Garrett Milstead, the 3rd allowed by Milstead in 35.2 innings pitched.

Curt Tennant took over for the 9th inning. Tennent got the first two but ran into a peck of trouble after that, Lynn Foster and Tim Compton singled and Al Corbin reached on a critical two out two base throwing error shortstop Al Johnson loaded the bases with two outs. Ralph Pettit singled over the drawn in outfield for a game winning walk off single.

Tennent (1-6) picked up the loss and Charlie Blue the win, Blue is 6-1.
