Milwaukee 7 San Francisco 0

Starter Ozzie Engle threw his second complete game and first complete game shutout of the season. The five hit shutout was the sixth complete game for the staff and second complete game shutout. Engle walked four and struck out seven to improve his record to 5-2 w/a 3.22 ERA.

Patsy Hadley started for the Giblets and he was rocked for three runs on just two hits in the bottom of the first inning. Larry Young singled to right field. Shortstop Roberto Young grounded into a fielders choice. Young was forced out at second. Hadley walked Tim Compton. Gomez stole third base on ball four. That upset Hadley to the point he served up one over the plate and switch hitter Paul Brickell hit it deep over the left field fence for a 3-0 Milwaukee lead.

The Mustangs put on a power display in this game hitting four homeruns to add on to the score.

Mel Rinerr hit his 4th of the season with no one out in the 4th inning. 4-0.

Tim Compton hit hus 8th of the season with one on in the 6th inning. 6-0. All three came off hadley who left after six innings for a pinch hitter (10 hits 6 runs, all earned one walk seven strikeouts. Hadley has allowed ten homeruns in 38.1 innings pitched.

Mike Coleman hit his 4th homerun in the 8th inning off Jason Lucas (first allowed by Lucas in 4 innings pitched.)

Milwaukee picked up a game on the Pittsburgh Pirates who dropped their third straight and four out of their last five, all coming on their disastorous six game road trip.

Philadelphia took the game 5-4 in 11 innings.

Philadelphia is 6-3 in extra innings amnd Pittsburgh dropped to 3-3.

Mike Schmidt (6th) hit a three run homerun in the 2nd inning off Corey Campfield (7th allowed in 66 innings pitched).

Philadelphia added a run in the 4th. Bobby Williams reached on an error by Larry Bowa. Left fielder Tommy Alvarez made a great diving catch of a liner hit by Alex Fischer. Williams stole third base as Ron Thomas struck out. Hidalgo singled in Williams. Hidalgo was caught stealing to end the inning. 3-1 Philadelphia

Pittsburgh scored three times to take a 4-3 lead in the 6th inning. Duke Bruno hit a solo homerun off Campfied. It was Bruno's 3rd homerun of the season and the 7th allowed by Campfield. Pittsburgh score two more run in the inning. Bobby Williams walked and Ron Thomas singled...both scored on a double by Syd Hidalgo.

4-3 Pittsburgh.


8th Inning; Garry Maddox tripled off Terry Mulholland. Mulholland was replaced by Ryan Madsen. Mulholland's line ; 7 IP + one batter... 6H 3R/3ER 2BB 6SO. Madsen was appearing for the second consecutive day got out of the inning not allowiong a run and went two more innings allowing just one hit one walk and striking out one batter.

Lefthander J. C. Romero, the winning pitcehr in game one took over in the top of the 11th and worked one scoreless inning.

Dave Neiman worked the bottom of the 11th Greg lusinski singled to center field. Ryan Howard singled past first baseman George Hall sending Lusinski to third base.Chase Utley's game winning single gave Philadelphia their second straight walk off in over Pittsburgh.

The win vaulted Philadelphia into forsrtvplace all by themselves. Romero (3-0) was the winning pitchers for the second srtraight game.
