The Boston WhippoorWills won their sixth straight to maintain a one game lead over Washington and two games over Anaheim. Boston just completed a three game sweep of Washington that allowed them to climb over Washington into first place in the American League.

Boston starting pitcher Ozzie Hadley went all nine innings for the win (6-1. It was the third complete game for Hadley and seventh complete game this season by the Boston pitching staff. Hadley is tied with Carl Doyle of Los Angeles and Lukas Speed of Anaheim for the league lead.

Hadley gave up four hits one run on a fourth inning homerun by Mike Lesley, his second of the season, and the 6th allowed by Ed Schramka in 39.1innings this season.

Boston took a 3-0 lead in the 1st innings on a three run homerun by Eddie Gigon, his 4th and the 6th allowed by Schramka in 39.1 innings this season.

Boston added a run in the 2nd inning on the efforts of two rookies. Second baseman George Hawes walked. Hadley bunted him to second and Center fielder Rick Locklear singled in Hawes.
