Boston over Seattle in ten innings; 4-2

The Boston WhippoorWills extended their lead over Washington ands Anaheim to two games. Boston's defeated Seattle 4-2, while Washington lost to Baltimore 7-5 and Anaheim moved into a tie with Washington for second lace with a 5-4 win over Los Angeles. Texas outscored the Yankees 5-2.

Boston picked up win number twenty four for its seventh straight win in ten innings. Boston is 1-1 in extra innings and Seattle is 0-1.

Seattle struck for the game's first plate in the 3rd inning on Tony Stovall 4th homerun of the season with no one on and no one out . it was the 5th allowed by Rod Sewell in 62.1 innings. Boston tied the game 1-1 in the top of the 3rd inning on a homerun by catcher Leon Radowski off Seattle starting pitcher Don Bailey.

Bailey put in eight innings giving up one run on five hits walked two and struck out seven. Sewell went seven innings gave up seven hits and two runs both earned walked one, struck out six and had one wild pitch. Neither figured in the decision.

Seattle took a 2-1 lead in the 6th on singles by Jim Lynch and Dick Goldman.

Boston rallied to tie it 2-2 in the top of the 9th inning off Ernie Allen. Dave Scudder singled and went to third base when Stan McGeary singled to left field. McGeary stole second taking away the force out. Bronsen Jansen struck out. McGeary scored the tying run on a ground out by Eddie Gigon.

Boston took the lead in the top of the 11th off Herm Rosenthal (LP 0-1) Steve Maguire tripled.. Jack Plummer walked. Jed Scott singled to leftfield scoring Maguire tying the game and sending Plummer to third base where he scored the game winning run on a sacrifice fly by Don Blackwell.
