New York is 2-2 in extra innings and Seattle is now 1-1, with both extra inning games occurring within the last five games.

Lynch was also at the forefront with his bat. His 6th inning sacrifice fly, off losing pitcher Luis Ritter, cut New York's early 2-0 lead to one, 2-1. The first of two doubles for Lynch in the 8th inning tied the game 2-2 and his second double in the 10th inning off Chris Ostendorf was the game winning hit.

Luis Ritter fell to 0-7 on the season despite having one of his best outings. Ritter went 9.1 innings, gave up eight hits and four runs walked three and struck out five.

Seattle starting pitcher Don Bailey went only five innings (four hits and two runs) before turning things over to the bullpen. BOSTON 1 TEXAS 0

The high flying Boston offense, first in seven offensive categories, has been nowhere to be found in the last three games in which Boston has still managed to win two of the three because Boston pitching has shined like a pair of spit shined jump boots.

Three Boston starters, Ken Turner, Ozzy Hadley and Rod Sewell have pitched 23 innings allowed and just one run They struck out 23 and walked one. That left just four innings for the bullpen to cover and it gave up just one run on three hits in those innings total out to a 0.72 ERA.

In last night's action Rod Sewell went eight scoreless innings allowed two hits and struck out nine. Don Jones took home his 15th save.

Another opposing starter matched Boston's pitching inning for scoreless inning in the game. This time it was Jim Twombly (3-4). Twombly went eight innings gave up four hits and one run. He struck out seven and walked one.

As has been the case recently, Boston turned to its power game for what offense it could muster and this time left fielder Stan McGeary stepped to the forefront with his 8th four baggger of the season, also the 8th allowed by Twombley in 63.1 innngs pitched.
