Oakland 5 Seattle1

Oakland has bee hot winning eight of its last ten ad three straight, knocked off Compton Seattle Pilotz 5-1. Both Seattle and Washington have played only .500 ball over their last ten games enabling Oakland to pull within two games of first place.

Vern Ferris (2-2) got the better of Dave McNally who dropped his first decision of the season after six wins. Ferris went eight innings allowing only three hits and one run walked two struck out three. Floyd Amaral took care of the final inning.

McNally last eight innings giving up eleven hits five runs two walks and struck out four.

Emil Barron had four hits in five at bats (double, four singles) that paced an eleven hit attack for Oakland.

The Senators took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning.

Tom Simmons hit his fourth triple of the season with one out inthe inning. Jake Washington followed with a run scoring single to center field.

Anaheim tied the game in the 3rd in a very similar manner. Bill Berenyi hit the first of two triples for him in the game. Dick Hopp singled him in.

Anaheim took a 3-1 lead in the 5th inning.

Andy Cox singled before Berenyi second triple of the game, third of the season. Berenyi scored on a ground out by Red Clark.

Washington pulled to within one run in the seventh on a Paul Zuleta single and a Dave Merritt triple. (3-2)

Washington went to bat in the ninth needing a run to send it into extra innings. Simmons lead off with a walk. Catcher Aubrey Smith singled sending Simmons to third base.Jack Eichhorn's ground out to first got the tying run in.

Washinton's starting pitcher Art Sexton went six innings (seven hits three earned runs) before giving way to Bob Heffner (two innings), Bert Johnson (three innings) and Bill Bullinger who complete the game for a six scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Baker got the win and Bullinger picked up his 19th save.

Washington scored the winning run in the 13th inning. Umbargewr had a one out single. Rodriquez walked in front of Bill Miller's game winning single.

Bullinger did walk three straight to load the bases with two outs before he finally got the final out, a Bill Cardinal fly to left fielder Jack Eichhorn (his only put out of the game).
