JOHNNY KEANE LEAGUE

The American League appears to be in for a very competitive season this year with three teams just one game behind first place Minnesota who dropped the rubber game of a three game series with Boston.

The Boston win coupled with Los Angeles' 2-1 loss to Chicago who broke a 1-1 deadlock in the eight inning with a Ray Tatis RBI single. Germany Moore save it for Chicago, his seventh save of the season.

Los Angeles won two of the three games in that series.

Anaheim is the hottest team in the league with six straight wins and they now are 14-13 just two games behind the co-leaders. Anaheim shut out Oakland 5-0.

Sherman (Albie-Ur) Huckleberry tossed a three hit complete game shutout walking two a nd recording eight strikeouts.

Linton Darr staked him to all the runs he would need in the second inning when he crushed his second long ball of the season odd losing pitcher Tim Graham (1-4).

Anaheim added two more runs in the third on a triple by Dennys Huber, and run scoring singles by George Kutina and Phil Coleman.

The Boston BeanEaters took game three of their series with Minnesota 4-3.

In game one of that series, the BeanEaters won in ten innings 4-3.

Boston trailed 3-3 going into the ninth inning only to rally to tie the score on a two out run scoring single by Everett Babbitt.

Don Anderson doubled in the tenth inning moved to third base on a ground out and scored on a slow roller hit by Earl Dowd.

Game two was close until Minnesota scored ten runs in the final two innings by the suddenly beleagered Boston bullpen. John Amaral blew the save and took his frist loss of the season. (0-1).

GAME THREE

BOSTON 6 MINNESOTA 1


Although Boston began the rubber game of the series worried about the state of their bullpenwhich had been overworked a d exposed in the series, starting pitcher Walt Hartley put those concerns to rest with a route going performance allowing one run on four hits. Hartley walked two and struck out five to bounced back from taking his first loss in his last appearance. Hartley is now 5-1.

Center fielder Paul Young led the way offensively with four hits in five at bats including his fifth homerun of the season following Hartley's lead-ff triple in the seventh nning. The homerun boosted the score to 6-0.

First baseman Don Anderson and third baseman Larry Powers chipped in with three hits apiece. Both scored a run and drove in a run.

Minnesota broke up Hartley's three hit shutout effort in the ninth inning when Andre Kennedy doubled and Bob Secrist tripled.
Oacar Akers flied out to Young in centerfield to end the game.
