The New York Yankees have been on a bot streak that began on August 21, 1950. Since then the Yanks have won 12 of their 15 games played, four by shutout. They scored 65 4uns allowed 34 and have won their last five game, four by shutout.

That has left a hit Seattle team winners of 7 of its last 10 games seven games behind first place New York. Seattle leads both Toronto and Chicago (eight back) by one game and Kansas City who has lost its last five straight games.

New York won game one of its series 5-0. All of New York's runs came as a result of a homerun. Rusty Bauer singled and scored on Harry Palmer's tenth of the season coming off Washington starting pitcher Jim Batch in the first inning with no one out.

The other three were all solo homeruns hit off Batch in the seventh with no outs by pinch hitter Larry Vincent, his 6th.

New York had two in the eighth, Horace Corbett's 10th and Josh Dorish hit his 10th off reliever Raleigh Glaus. Glaus has now given up five in 29.1 innings and Batch 11 in 85.2 innings pitched.

Miller went the distance giving up seven hits and two walks and one man reached on an error. Miller was able to strand all ten runners because he struck out ten in the game and four coming in key situations.

Miller struck out two in the third inning after Jim Ramirez reached on an error by third baseman Mike Dayett and Scott Lyons (three hits) singled him to third base. Miller struck out Arthur Boyle and Butch Milligan and got Bobby Geronimo on a routine fly out to leftfielder Darrell Henderson.

In the fifth Miller gave up a ;ead off single to Geronimo and a one out walk to Jim Collins. The lefty escaped any damage by getting Skinny Hines to force Collins at second base (3-6) and struck out pitcher Jim Batch.

Arthur Boyle singled with two outs in the seventh but Miller struck out Milligan.

Miller had his only 1-2-3 inning in the eight and got a fly out, a pop out and a strike out of Ramirez to end the game on a high note.
