Game one of three in Washington

The first game of Boston's three gam series with Compton's Senatorz went to Boston 10-1 behind Martin Bellinger's frost complete game effort of the season, and the second for the Boston pitching staff. Dalton Kelly had the other on July 8th against Texas.

Bellinger gave up eight hits and one run, walked one and struck out six. The only Washington run off Bellinger came on a one out third inning homerun by Steve Christmas, his second of the season, and the first off Bellinger this season. The opposition is hitting .226 off Bellinger this season. He has a 1.58 ERA in 17 innings and is 2-0.

Washington starting pitcher Balor Moore was taken out of the game in the 3rd inning with one out after allowing seven hits and six runs. Boston scored its first run in the second inning when Bruce Hess singled, stole second base, and scored on center fielder Jim Delaggio's two out single. Delaggio, made his first start in center field, filling in for injured Julio Petry, out for at least three weeks with a hamstring pull. Delaggio handled five chances in the outfield flawlessly and went two for four with a walk offensively.

1-0 Boston.

The BoSox scored five times in the 3rd inning getting five straight one out hits off Moore. Les Hollondswoth sigled to left field. Jeff Coombs doubled to centerfield. Hollondsworth socred on the play. Paul Funk singled to right field. Coombs challenged the arm of right fielder Jimmie Foxx and scored the second run of the inning. Bruce Hess singled, the fourth straight hit and Mike Keeton followed him with his first homerun of the season, good for three runs batted in, and a 6-0 Boston lead.

That was the end for Moore. Frankie Rodriquez came on and walked Doug Tyson, the sixth straight batter to reach in the inning. Rodriquez struck out Belaggio and catcher Bob Bunker grounded into an inning ending force out.

Doug Tyson hit his first of the season in the 5th inning with two on to up the lead to 9-0 as Boston cruised to a 10-1 win. They improved to 6-1 on the season. Washington lost teir third straight game and dropped to 4-3, two games behind Boston.

NEW YORK 6 KANSAS CITY 4

Alan Casian got he win, Casian, 2-0 went eight innings gave up seven hits and four runs.

his catcher Jeff Deasley, now batting a cool .571 after getting three hits including his first homerun in the 6th inning, off Ed Gehringer. Gehringer had four strikeouts in the game got three of hem in that inning.

New York (6-1) won its fourth straight game and is tied for first place with Boston in the early going.

Los Angeles 5 Seattle 3

Los Angeles 1-6 went on the road for its first win of the season.

Nolan Harris (1-1) ent 8 innings seven hits three runs one walkk and had three strikeouts. harris got 9th inning relief help from Pat Bokelman who picked up his first save and recorded one strikeout.

Los Angeles came out breathing fire scoring four times in the 1st inning on six hits, all singles, off Seattle starting pitcher Eric Stanky. Danny Rakow, John Sullivan, Tommy Demaree, Dick Leek, Aaron McAllester, and Houston Forster all had his, Demaree, Leek, McAllester and Forster drove in the runs.

A Terry Coffee 4th innng single and two solo homeruns in the 6th by SWalt helms (3rd) and Carl Schroder (1st) closed the gap to 4-3.

Three hits by Art Evans, Aaron McAllester and Houston Forster in the 8th inning off Eddie Wakefield provided an insurance run for Pat Borkelman to pick up his fiorst save of the season.
