@ GEORGE WASHINGTON STADIUM, Washington D.C.

The over achieving 19-13 Washington Senators' 4-0 win over the 18-14 Anaheim Alchemists dropped the Alchemists one game behind the triumphant of Washington, Kansas City and Los Angeles who are all tied for first place in the American League.

While Washington is battling Anaheim at home, Los Angeles outscored Oakland 8-2, Kansas City double up Seattle 10-5 and Detroit squeaked by Boston 4-3.

Meanwhile in George Washington Stadium in the District of Columbia, the Senators shut out the Anaheim Alchemists 4-0. Matt Morris started for Washington and held Anaheim to just three hits striking out ten and walking three.

Morris did not figure into the decision because he left after seven innings with the two teams locked in a scoreless tie.
His mound opponant Billy Wisterzil began the eight inning and walked Ron Bittinger in front of Carl Stoops homerun puitting the Senators up 2-0.

It was Stoops' second of the season and the fourth allowed by Witerzil this season in 36.2 innings pitched. Wisterzil retired Stan Jackson on a fly ball to Lloyd Boisclair in left field. Dick Bosman was the last man to face the right hander and he doubled to left centerfield off the wall bring in Dee Duffie.

Duffie struck out the first batter he faced, Randy Hubbard. Hector Locker lined a shot off the pitcher's right ankle for an infield single. After a delay to check on his welfare by the trainer Duffie remained in the game. His control deserted him and he walked Albert Barron. Reserve catcher Chad Martinez doubled driving in both runners to make it 4-0 and that was the final score.


George Nickles got the win by pitching the eighth inning and Tom Davis shut down Anaheim in the ninth.
