Senior citizen retiring

Post by smann »

I held onto this dude to see how long he could hold on. At the age of 50, Ryan Del Campo retires as the all time leader in saves with 754, only 24 of which came in his last ten seasons. Memorable moments include pitching to a 0.20 ERA in 45 games one season. He winds up with a 3.58 career ERA even with a miserable showing in recent years. Of course, being in a rebuild helped justify keeping him on board.

We also part company with 46yo Alan Halliday after 22 seasons, just shy of 1500 RBI's.

Okay we now have walkers and adult diapers for sale. Hardly used. Make offer.

It's interesting to see them play that long, but at the same time, I really don't like our retirement rule. It's kind of cool when the really good players make it into their 40's, but mid 40's and beyond for players that aren't B+ overall?

I'm not a fan either Bill. Seems like too many 34 and 35 year old's retire too soon. It's okay when skills diminish but B+ at that age can still serve a purpose.
