Make any sense?

Post by Lawman23 »

Is there any reasoning here that makes sense why this guy fell off the edge of the world?? 6 straight FOY and 5 straight leading the league in saves and now can't get anybody out! The team has fallen off I admit and is heading for rebuild re-haul but doesn't explain his sudden disaster.

i agree, there is no logical reason for it. It has happened to me also. Had a veteran team finish last in hitting one season, and then turn around and come in 3rd the next. And then you have the other extreme. where a guy has a career year at 33, or even 34.

The small sample size is the main culprit. A few really bad games and the whole season's ERA is shot. The relievers that pitch 100+ innings tend to have more consistent careers than these 50 inning guys, but it can happen to any reliever. Even a starting pitcher can fall off the edge. One year you're facing the best teams every time your team has a series against them, and other years you're getting matched up vs. the bottom dwellers. For closers, some years the saves are all 2 or 3 run leads, and other years it's all 1 run leads.
