1st Pick (Draft Help)

Post by cubsawsm1 »

I have the first pick in this draft and am debating between a starter or a young catcher (but am open to other opinions as well). Not sure who would be better overall mostly because there is a pretty severe catcher drought in the league, would love some advice.

Why not 19 yo Catcher Wagner? A+ arm and not every catcher is Johnny Bench. You need a better range 1b and CF is weak. there is a A- CF available. Pitching is nice to have an abundance of but hitting and defense make them great.

He's in a rebuild, so why take a CFer that's going to be declining before he's ready to compete, is never going to be more than an average hitter, and that has a bad arm. Arm is way more important then range in the OF.

I think Vega could be better than Wagner will turn out. Wagner is turning 20 soon, and has bad speed for a contact split.

Puckett is a year younger and almost as good Barthelson. That's another option. The catcher you mention should be solid, but not as valuable as a good starting pitcher.

They were questions and possible solutions. Since I thought competing was a goal of most folks Taking the CF mentioned would help that. B- arm is better than what is there now. Enjoy your rebuild.
