48 hours to the deadline

Post by SquidJordan »

Contenders, is your team set for the stretch run? Couldn't you use another solid starter? Is your bench deep enough? Do you trust your bullpen??! This is your chance to bolster your once-in-a-lifetime squad, and the trading deadline is literally hours away.
You're too good to deal with the bottom-feeding Squids? Even the 1962 Mets had Richie Ashburn (.306 average) and Frank Thomas (34 home runs). If the 1962 Giants has acquired either of these gentlemen in a swap, they might have been champions. Plenty of talent to be had for a fair price, and the need for extra talent multiplies in September, when rosters expand. Do you really want your C+ schlub pitching valuable innings at the wire? Couldn't you use -- don't you owe it to your fans to have -- an array of major-league talent at your disposal?
Complement an aging starter.
Fill up your bench.
Bolster your bullpen.
Act now.

How about Lucky Judkins? Left-handed swinger who can play left field and some first base, but his true value is as the first bat off your bench. Lucky is slashing .245/.310/.340 in limited exposure. A-minus power against both lefties and righties. Lucky just wants to play for a contender.
Then take a look at Bingo Long, swing-man extraordinaire. Bingo is no joke, 4-0 with an ERA of an even 2 in 18 innings of work. On the road, he's posted an astounding 0.75 ERA. What a luxury it would be to call on this gentleman in a close game in front of braying fans in the Donkey Dome this September. And, boy, can he dance!
