Boston 6 New York 1
The first place Boston Red Sox continued to receive excellent pitching as they carried a 41.1 innings scoreless innings streak into game two of their series with the New York Rockers. Starters Al Everett (7 innings 0 runs on 6 hits). Kettle Smalley 98 innings 0 runs on 7 hits), Bob Quirico (7,2 innings 0 runs on 1 hit) and Danny Dixon (8 innings 0 runs on 1 hit) had put together four outstanding starts for the starting pitchers and the bullpen comprised of Chris Wilson, Ray Giannelli, Mike Jacome and closer Bill Dorish, who has converted on all 24 of his save opportunities and has been unscored on in his last 18 appearances, finished off all five games of this winning streak.

Boston scored three times in the fourth inning off Rory Gallagher on a double by Norm Stegman and a run scoring single by Guy Zimmerman. Zimmerman stole second base (15) with two outs and catcher Weldon Suder socked his sixth-round tripper of the season to give the Bos Sox a 3-0 lead.

One inning later they Sox offense was back at it again this time victimizing reliever Angus young. Rogers Robinson, starting at first base, singled to right field and stole second (3). Carrasquel struck out attempting to bunt. Young walked Ryan Kirby and Norm Stegman's second double of the game produced two runs and a 5-0 lead.

Thurston Moore replaced Young and Zimmerman singled in Stegman to increase the lead to 6-0.

After working out of the bullpen for five games, Carrasquel went eight and one thirds innings allowing one run on four hits, by far his best outing of the year to improve to 2-5. He took a three-hit shutout into the ninth inning but gave up a single sandwiched between two walks and came out of the game with one out. Mike Jacome, his replacement gave up a run scoring single to Robert Tripp breaking up the shutout streak at 49.2 innings. Closer Bill Dorish came on and restored order getting the final two outs for his 24th save.
