AL Team Recaps

Post by ptech » Thu Sep 05, 2019 11:36 pm

So lets start off first with the non playoff teams in the American League.

Texas (92-70) -20
Texas is likely on the cusp of a rebuild, or at least a major retooling, after being a post season team in the previous 5 seasons. Tex had the largest negative win differential in the AL. The Lone Stars fielded 3 all stars this year; Paul Balaz (SP) // Bobby Graham (RP) // Harlond Gehring (C).

Cleveland (86-76) -4
Cleveland is a team stuck on the edge of contention (been there myself). This should be an interesting OS as the Cuyahoga decide what direction to take going forward. The fighting river fires placed 4 players on the all star team; Carl Suppan (C) // Hafthor Bjornsson (3B) // Johnny Dakota (SP) // Ken Baker (LF)

LA Twins (81-81) -9
Los Angeles has a nice mix of veteran and younger players. This mix should allow them to bounce back and be a contender as early as next season. The Twins boasted a fine total of 4 all stars this year; Dave Shifflett (SS) // Ernie Washburn (RF) // Roger McGeachy (SP) // John Kiefer (1B)

Baltimore (71-91) +2
The Breeze picked up a new owner (and two wins!) this season. This squad is clearly in the early stages of a rebuild, but they have some fine young pieces to build around. Most notably, the young slugger Phil Libke. The Breeze blew in a nice total of 3 all stars; Sam Inks (RP) // Chad Croushore (SS) // Keith Miller (CF)

Kansas City (53-109) +4
KC cooked up four extra wins, as their rebuild bears its first fruit. A talented young lineup will need to see its pitching bolstered over the next couple season to take the next leap. Sadly, the BBQ squad wasn't quite saucy enough to place anyone on the AL all stars.

New York (52-110) +10
New York managed the American Leagues best win differential of the non PS qualifying teams, piling up an impressive 10 extra wins over last year. While the MLB roster may not be much to look at, their MiLB system is stacked. Just like NY, don't sleep on these guys. While the Titans had zero all stars, Larry Lopat & Mike Torres finished one/two in the AL ROY race.
