World Series Recap

Post by ttreese »

In what many believe were both the underdogs in the LCS series; San Diego and Texas shocked both favorites Montreal and Washington to advance to the World Series. In game 1; Texas came out strong scoring 4 runs early and taking advantage of SP Lawton's performance - 8 IP and O ER. In game 2; San Diego rebounded quickly behind a strong performance from SP Tex Hunt and the SD Pen who only gave up 3 hits on the evening winning 5-2 and tying the series at 1-1. Heading back to San Diego, both teams knew it was important to grab the third game. Texas was forced to face their long term SP "Rev" Cannady who was traded earlier in the season to SD. SD took the early lead 2-1 but Texas ended up scoring 6 runs in the last three innings winning the game 7-4 and taking a 2-1 series lead. Heading into game 4; SD started 15 game winner and only OS25 SP Don McGraw. Texas came out early with six runs scored and managed to hold off the SD comeback in later innings to win 8-5 and taking a 3-1 series lead. San Diego started 17 game winner ace John Roxburgh acquired earlier in the season via trade with Brooklyn. Roxburgh gave the home fans much to be excited about as he threw 8 strong innings only giving up 4 hits pacing his team for a return trip to Texas. In game six; SD started Tex Hunt hoping for more of his success. SD took the early lead in the game up 2-1 before Texas bats came alive behind Leverette's RBI triple in the 4th and Barry Kipper's lead off home run in the sixth to put Texas up 3-2 with 4 innings to a championship. In the 7th inning; SD mounted an attack. After a single and walk; Frank Manuel singled in what appeared to be a game tying RBI however, Dave Garrett was thrown out at home by veteran CF Tony Deagle also acquired earlier in the year via trade from Brooklyn. Possibly the play of the game. Texas RPs Danny Carpenter and John Ketchum were able to hold down the last three innings giving Texas the Championship.

The 2082 season came to an end with Texas winning the championship having the 3rd best record in the league beating SD with the fifth best record. Two teams overachieving all season. Though Montreal and Washington were disappointed in not reaching the Series; fans can be assured they may be there in 2083. Washington is stocked with pitching and will be the early favorite in the AL. Montreal having won the last two World Series and was positioned well in 2082 is expected to make another strong run in 2083.

Brace yourself fans; 2083 should be another exciting year in the Ozzie Smith League.

Thanks. I saw on another league message board someone wrote up a post draft summary. That looked fun, thought i'd take a crack at a post playoff summary.
