2083 Draft Summary

Post by ttreese »

Round 1 - 2083 Draft Ozzie Smith League

Pick 1 - MIN acquired from CHA - 3B Pete Prudhomme (LSU)
Minnesota took the power hitting Prudhomme first overall and is expected to be in the majors in just a few years and should help drive in a lot of runs for the Twins. Pete comes from a New Orleans culinary family (the late great Chef Paul Prudhomme). When not slugging home runs; Pete is known to cook a good gumbo for teammates.

Pick 2 - SF - SP Ben Gleason (Merritt Island, FL HS)
In a bit of surprise the Purple Haze took Gleason ahead of several other top rated pitchers. Gleason has max velocity at OS18 just needs to develop his control in the minors to become an ace starter for SF at the major league level.

Pick 3 - DET - SP Jay Frill (Vanderbilt)
Detroit grabbed what many analysts had as the top pitching prospect in the draft acquiring Frill at the #3 spot and immediately placing him in the starting lineup for the 2083 season. Frill appears headed for star quality.

Pick 4 - ATL acquired from BRO - RP Roberto McLaughlin (Magnolia TX HS)
ATL grabbed possibly the highest rated reliever in the draft. Roberto considered attending the The University of Texas but couldn't pass up on Atlanta’s offer to develop in their minor league system.

Pick 5 - SD - RP Mike Eckert (Beacon School NY HS)
SD grabbed another top reliever prospect in Eckert. Eckert dominated high school play in the Northeast leading the Beacon School to back to back NY state championships. While Eckert was primarily a starter in high school, he will be transitioned into a reliever role in the majors.

Pick 6 - STL - RF Ruben Monteleone (N Fort Myers FL HS)
St. Louis took what many analysts had as the top hitting prospect in the draft acquiring Monteleone at the #6 spot. St Louis adds another star quality prospect to their already growing prospect list including Ps Blackwater & Walker and Position Players Heartsbane, Growler, and Dobb. The city of St. Louis appears to have a lot to look forward to in short order.

Pick 7 - TOR - SP Sean Embree (LaLumiere IN HS)
Toronto grabbed a young SP project in Embree. Embree has one of the strongest arms and good health in the draft with high potential velocity; can his control develop to major league standards. Many think yes. Time will tell.

Pick 8 - NYN - SP John Sikorski (Shawnee OK HS)
The New York MookieCarters added a strong SP to their minor league system grabbing Sikorsky at #8 overall. At OS19 and a control of B-; Sikorsky may develop into a solid B/A pitcher and be in the majors for a very long career.

Pick 9 - ATL - RP Chuck Creel (Archbishop McCarthy FL HS)
ATL took advantage of 1st round pick #2 in this year’s draft and snatched RP Creel at #9 overall. Creel has the potential to develop into a SP or may fit with earlier acquired RP McLaughlin to form a strong bullpen in the future in Atlanta.

Pick 10 - PHI - SS Walt Tyrone (Duke University)
PHI snatched the top hitting SS prospect in the draft. Tyrone is expected to be in the minors briefly as he’s Major League ready in terms of hitting but probably needs some development with his defensive play. Will be a fun prospect to watch in the future.

Pick 11 - TB - RF Bob Tamargo (University of Miami)
Tampa Bay acquired power hitting prospect Bob Tamargo. Defensively Tamargo needs to develop on his range in the field but with that power hitting potential the Home Runs coming may overshadow any fielding challenges.

Pick 12 - SEA - SP Brent Newlin (Jefferson City MO HS)
As starting pitchers remain a highly valued commodity; Seattle didn't hesitate to grab another prospect for the future. All eyes remain on Seattle’s SP Viserion prospect from the 2081 draft. While Newlin isn't expected to be of same caliber as Viserion; he should develop into another quality starting prospect for the Ice and Fire.

Pick 13 - WAS - RF Hank Colbrunn (Saline MI HS)
Colbrunn appears to be a strong all around hitting prospect slightly stronger against righties than lefties who appears will have excellent speed and good range in the field. Colbrunn becomes the third first round pick WAS has developing in the minors. Homestead Grays fans have an exciting outfield to look forward to in the future.

Pick 14 - MON - 1B Minoru Matsumoto (Yomiuri Giants)
Montreal may have struck gold signing foreign player Matsumoto from the Nippon Professional League in Japan. Having been placed immediately in the majors; Matsumoto is leading all draft picks with most ABs this season to date and as of time of this post batting a solid .273 adjusting well to the American Ozzie Smith League.

Pick 15 - MIN acquired via SD - SP Jack Bordick (Rice University)
Minnesota taking advantage of draft pick number two in this year’s first round; took hard throwing Bordick out of Rice University. If Bordick’s Velocity catches up with his strong arm; he should be in the majors after just a few seasons in the minors. Bordick joins possibly the deepest SP minor system in the league in Minnesota. MIN has potentially six SP under OS25 that may be major league ready in next few years.

Pick 16 - MON acquired via TEX - RP Oswaldo Davis (La Cueva NM HS)
Rounding out the first round; Montreal grabbed reliever prospect Oswaldo Davis. While health and endurance limited Davis selection higher in the draft; Oswaldo has the potential to be A/A pitching quality and possible top closer in the future. Many wonder if the New Mexico native will adjust well to the climate in Montreal. Apparently the signing bonus helped relieve any concerns for Davis.

And there you have it folks, the 2083 draft summary. All in good fun; enjoy.

Thanks for the positive comments; if others like it as well, I'll continue it forward providing a draft summary (my favorite) and a playoff recap. Maybe a mid-season summary as well. Not familiar with how the HOF works; maybe someone else should tackle that for now.

It only happened when Missouri Baseball was here. Royals85, would you like to take it over temporarily until ttreese feels comfortable taking it over?

It's time very time consuming, and only really works if the person running it wants to make the time and enough league members care about it.
