Trade Deadline

Post by ttreese »

The trade deadline came and went this year with no major nor minor trades. Though there might have been discussions; no triggers pulled and it appears the race to the postseason with continue forward with set rosters.

In the National League; the Philadelphia Athletics have stretched out to an 11 game lead with what appears to be a four team hunt for the second playoff spot among Atlanta, St. Louis, New York, and Montreal. ATL and STL have the slight advantage. Should be a tight race to the finish.

In the American League; the Washington Homestead Grays continue to maintain a slight lead over the Texas Vaqueros but both Seattle and Toronto are in the hunt with Minnesota also lurking within striking distance. Looks like whichever two teams get hot over remaining month of the season will be the two representing the AL this year.

Trade spectators were surprised no deals made before the deadline. Many thought some of the following players might be on the move...

SEA had both SP Longclaw and RP Blackfyre on the market and could have offered major boosts to another team's pitching staff; however, it appears the offers may not have been strong enough for SEA to move away from contending this year in the playoffs. SEA fans are happy to see their owner pushing forward for a playoff spot.

MIN was thought to be a viable trade partner for SP Oathkeeper Tarth, SP Fritz Mills, and possibly C Watson; however, it appears in a similar situation to SEA ownership wasn't willing to make a deal while they are still in contention this year and have many pieces in place for a strong run in 2084 as well.

Many thought MON would move either or both SP Ferreira and RP/Closer Burroughs but only those close to MON GM know what was offered or not offered.

While many Fans seem a little down on no major trades before the deadline; one has to go back to the 2080 season to find a couple significant deals before the trade deadline. It appears owners in the Ozzie Smith League prefer making their blockbuster deals during the off-season and earlier in the season.

Good luck to all as we enter Sept 2083 and final push to the playoffs.
