2083 LCS Summary

Post by ttreese »

The 2083 Season LCS have concluded. In the National League; two recent newcomers to the playoffs both the Philadelphia Athletics and the Atlanta SmoltzGlavins squared off in an exciting series with Philly pulling away winning 4 games to 2. The series was tied 2-2 and then pitching took over as Philadelphia won the final two games by a combined score of 3-0 shutting down the explosive Atlanta offense. Many expected a tight series as both teams split an even 12-12 in the 24 regular season games they played against each other. Each team won 8 at home and only 4 on the road. These statistics carried over into the LCS as the home team won 5 of 6 games.

PHI NL Cy Young and Fireman Winner Moe Cort paced the way appearing in 5 games with a record of 1-1 and 2 saves. Tom Wright was the unanimous team MVP of the LCS series as he went 2-0 over 15 IPs posting an ERA of 1.13. On the offensive side, CF Walt Dauss batted .500 and 3B Hal Kilhullen knocked 2 homers with 4 RBIs and posted a .368 avg. While on the losing end Atlanta's Zip Decker lead his team with a .368 avg and NL MVP winner Pinky Blank led his team with 4 RBIs.

In the AL LCS it took a full seven games for the Texas Vaqueros to move on winning the series 4-3. In a wild game 1; Washington took the series lead winning 10-9 in 13 innings including posting 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth. Texas bounced back winning game 2 on the road sending the series back to Buckaroo Stadium. Washington then won 2 of 3 on the road to take a 3-2 series lead heading home to Griffith Stadium. Texas came out strong in Game 6 winning 6-2 forcing a game seven. The Homestead Grays took an early lead 2-0 but the Vaqueros were able to battle back scoring 3 runs in the 6th and 7th inning ultimately winning the highly contested series.

Washington highlights came from 1B Turkey Stearnes who batted .379, C Mule Armstrong had 3 HRs, 8 RBIs, and a .346 avg; and SS Douglass posted 2 HRs, 8 RBIs, and a .344 avg. Washington's offense appeared to much for Texas at times; however, season aces Wiggins (13-4 2.78 ERA) and Foster (22-9 2.08 ERA) both posted LCS ERA's over 5 and 4 respectively. Texas was led by rookie SS Tanner who drove in 8 runs; 1B Jose Green with a .300 avg; and Veteran LF Deagle who knocked 2 long balls and drove in 6 RBIs. Many expect both veterans Green and Deagle to retire after the season. Washington beat up on Texas aces SP Lawton (0-1 7.07 ERA) and RP Garrison (3 games, 4.2 IP, 5 ER, and a 9.64 ERA). Newcomer RP Jeff Kirby kept Texas alive appearing in 5 games, collecting 2 saves, giving up no runs over 6+ innings. SP Vasco Torres led the Vaqueros with a 2-0 record pitching 15 innings and posting a good enough 3.00 ERA.

World Series starts tomorrow with Philadelphia hosting Texas. Both teams appear fairly evenly matched. PHI led the majors with a .277 avg while Texas finished 4th in avg with team hitting .268. The pitching nod is tight but may slightly favor Texas as the Vaqueros posted a team ERA of 3.65 compared to the Athletics 3.74 ERA. PHI has a slight edge in the field as well over Texas but it appears the largest difference lies in the performances on base. PHI stole 100 more bases than Texas but also was caught 120 times more than Texas. Should be a good series.

Congrats to all on fine seasons. One more series to go then we shift our focus to the 2084 Season.
