WBL Minor League Report 2036
By 2B1 Energy

HTP = Highly Top Prospect
TP = Top Prospect
ROY = Rookie of the Year
LY = Last Year
TY = This Year
(r) = (Ranked in the WBL)

Here is a poor man’s sabermetrics analysis of each team’s current Minor League System. This is usually put out in the off-season. Since there is no longer a four day window between seasons, the goal will be to distribute between the end of the season and the last day in April for the incoming season. Each team’s score is a review of the Minor League System Overall. To qualify as a player (#), the mentoring grade is blank. To achieve the top Minor League award, a team must have a minimum of eight qualified players in their system.

Maze, thanks for writing this up, I always enjoy reading this stuff.

In your calculations, which guy gets the higher grade?
Age 25 with B- overall rating.
Age 17 with C+ overall rating.

Thanks,
Mark (Hosers)

Dude, I think you need to spend some more time in chemistry class... your two stud elements are hardly studs in my book. Thanks for putting together. Makes an enjoyable read. Good luck to all this season

The projections would indicate the 17 yr old player as a better player ...

But our calculations only takes into consideration the present grade only. Thus, two seasons from now, the 19 year old should be equal or above by the other players before turning 27 (if eligible)

OK, so age isn't factored into the calculations at all... that makes more sense now to me how you came up with your results. If you wanted to value how skilled minor league systems will be in the future (when they're major leaguers) something like this might work (I'm just typing it up quick without much thought put into it but you get the idea)...
4 points for the following: OS 18 C+ or better, OS 19 B-, OS 20 B, OS 21-23 B+, OS 24-27 A-.
3 points for: OS 18 C, OS 19 C+, OS 20 B-, etc.
2 points for: OS 18 C-, OS 19 C, OS 20 C+, etc.

Just something to consider as most owners likely don't care about the current overall grade of a prospect nearly as much as the future overall grade. In turn, a C+ 18 year-old is much more valuable than a B- 25 year-old to the organization's success. That's how I look at it, for what it's worth.

In reality if you have someone in the minors past age 24 then they are just filler pieces or waiver wire fillers. In reality MOST GOOD prospects will be 23 OS and below. Anything above that will either be straight trash or again just a filler. If a team had 5 OS 18 good prospects then they would probably have the #1 minor league system in the league. Just looking at my minor system and it's not very good here is what I have.

Erdos- Should be a very very good pitcher. I believe he will get to B+ A+ and will be a very good pitcher.
Tom Shields- Don't know as he's still young, but he could get to A A-, but he also may only get to A- B+
Turchin- Yes he will be good and he can play 2b and SS. Not real sure about playing out of position. He could get to A- A- on the defense, but with his A+ bunt and his A+ speed eventually this dude is going to rake.
Marty Petersen- Makes it even better with his A bunt. If I can get him to A- speed then watch out. His defense will also be good and play just about any position. This guy will be good.

In my eyes I have 4 really good prospects and that's a lot better than 10 so so prospects.

Do to time, keep it basic and raw. If I was getting paid, it would definitely more intricate, more detailed. Plus, whatever is reported is a bonus for all the owners.
