2232 Down on the farm rankings

Post by nuzzy62 »

I am going to do it by OS age so this will take a little longer to do.

Starting pitchers
OS18: 1. Eliot Skiff SF C+ (a-/d); 2. Ron Richards NYA C (B/D-). Neither one of these guys will amount to much unless there is some sort of gem curve to them. Drafted 21st/28th respectively.

OS19: Carlisle Durham SF B- (A/D+). This 26th round pick could top out his velocity next season and then his growth will be slow.

OS20: 1. Ed Perez WAS B (B/B); 2. Roger Ensberg BAL C+ (C/B); 3. Rob Jones NYN B- (B-/C). Both Perez and Ensberg have positive upsides with Perez a potential star. His curve has seen him convert 6/49 then 12/65. This year it is 3/19 so far. He was drafted first overall.

OS21: 1. Jerry Thies WAS B+ (B+/B); 2. John Arias LAN B- (C/B+); 3. Reggie Kelly DET B- (B+/C-). Thies, who was drafted third, will be ready for the Show soon and should have a productive career. Arias, drafted seventh, will take longer to get there but might post better stats once he arrives. Kelly will be a back end starter.

OS22: 1. Jake Porter NYA B- (C+/B); 2. Dan Warner CHA B- (B/B-); 3. Paul Zaske SD B (B+/C+). Some may prefer Zaske over Porter but it looks like the former overall #1 looks like a bust to this point converting 0-83 so far. Bad luck for Simba.

OS23: 1. Brandy Lassetter SD B- (C-/A-); 2. Walt Compton MIN (C/B+); 3. Jim Fink DET B= (B/B-). Lassetter is converting 25% of his chances so far, first season, so he could be a steal of a pick at #9. Compton went an eye-popping 18-75 in ICs last year but is just 1-21 this season. This is Fink's third year in the minors and was 11-54 and 8-60 his first two years. This season he is on the same pace as last year.

Relief pitchers
OS18: 1. Charlie Akers NYN B- (B-B); 2. Gene Wilson KC C+ (C-/B); 3. John Costello SF C+ (C+/C+). The third, fifth and eighth picks of this draft. The bad news for New York is Akers is just 2/24 ICs so far. Wilson is 3/13 while Costello is 6/20. Could Costello turn out to be a steal?

OS19: 1. Al Woodburn WAS C+ (C+/C+); 2. Al McQuillan KC C+ (B-/C+); 3. Chief McClain ATL C+ (C+/C+). Who will turn out to Big Al? My vote for Woodburn as the 9th pick of the /31 draft has converted 31/90 chances so far. He looks like a gem! MCQuillan was the fourth pick of that same draft and converted 21/59 the first year but is just 2/13 so far in 32.

OS20: 1. Phil Bradley WAS B (B+/B-). Bradley was nabbed 21st in the expansion draft after being a number two overall pick. Looks like he might be an enigma curve 17-64, 12/72 and now 8/16. Should be a top end starter for Washington down the road.

OS21: 1. Ed Kimber LAN A- (A-/B+)l 2, Evar Wilson MIN B- (C+/B-); 3. March Nagleson SF C+ (B+/D). Kimber is going to be an A starter. He is 4/20 this year after only getting 45 chances last year. The second pick overall and one Todd said should have been number one. Wilson was drafted late, 27th, and has been a pleasant surprise. He's 26/80 in one please seasons. Nagelson will have to be on a gem curve to make up for that D control.

---
OS22: 1. Ahmed Hallel LAN B+ (A-/B+); 2. Art Fishel NYN B (B+/B-); 3. Jim Blankenship DET B (A-/C). Hallel is up in the majors, for part of the season, but will get sent down to make sure he doesn't get too many innings. The third pcik is 65/231 in the minors and was 10/52 last season. Fishel is just 1/19 so far after becoming the 13th pick of the last draft. Blankenship may turn out better than Fishel and is 6/19 this season after going 32/122 the previous two years in the minors. He was a third round pick and Todd's all-seeing eye may have spotted a useful player with the 35th pick.

OS23: 1. Jose Cuervo LAN B+ (A/B-); 2. Mike Cuellar NYN B (B+/B-); 3. Marty Seminara BAL B (B_/C+). Cuervo isn't as good as LA's pitcher at OS22 and OS21, but he's the best of this bunch. He's in the majors after being drafted in 32 and converting just 1-11 chances. Too soon? This Cuellar's fourth year toiling on the farm with an overall of 46/203 but just 0-14 this season. Is he done? Seminara was a 41st pick two drafts ago and has converted nicely at 17/73. He should become major league ready as a back end starter or bullpen piece.

Position players
OS18: 1. George Kerrigan WAS C+ (B/C+ right); 2. Scott Nettle CHA C+ (B-/C); 3. Melvin White BAL C+ (B/C-); 4. Jim Thomas WAS C (B-/C); 5. Cecil Phillips ARI (C/C). Kerrigan is being converted to second base from center field and was the second overall pick of this last draft. He's had a lot of ICs, 22, so far. Nettles was the fourth pick and is 13/15 in IC conversion. White, the sixth pick, is 17/19.

---
OS19: 1. Tom Friedrichs ATL ATL B (B/B+); 2. Manny Jeffries SD B- (D+/B+); 3. Bud Castillo SD B- (B-/B-); 4. Howard Bartosch SD V+ (C+/C-); 5. Bob Diehl FLA C+ (B+/D+). Friedrichs was the overall #1 pick of the last draft. His conversion rate has started slow, 7-12, which isn't that good. Hopefully, that will improve. Jeffries is being converted from a RF to CF. He is 52 of 76 in conversions, but isn't that hot. Castillo was the third pick in the 31 draft. He is converting at a 75% rate at 61 of 84. Bartosch was the 19th pick from the 31 draft. He's converting at a 90% rate at 68 of 75. Diehl is an end of the first round in 31. He is 14/16 this year and 56 of 80 last year.

OS20: 1. Solomon Saviour LAN B (A/B); 2. Connor Flannery DET B- (C/B+); 3. Juan Grilli CHA B (A/C); 4. Wendell Harlow FLA B- (B/B-); 5. Jim Nabors SD B- (B-/B-). Grilli should end up A+ in contact on both sides of the plate and in speed, which might max out next season, then his growth may slow quite a bit. Will Saviour live up to his name in LA? Flannery hasn't converted well in three seasons at 69-115, although he is a bit better in 2232 at 9/13. Nabors has had 144 chances so far in about two seasons and two months! With 118 conversions he is making rapid improvements.

OS21: 1. Lou Gray CHA B (B/A-); 2. Charlie Johnson ATL B0 (B-/A-); 3. Roy Rhawn NYA B (B-/B); 4. Monroe Schoonmaker ARI B (B+/C+); 5. Frank DeMaestri WAS B (B+/C+).

OS22: 1. John Partenheimer SD B+ (B+/A); 2. John Tillman SD B+ (A-/A-); 3. Sonny Cash ARI B+ (B+/A-); 4. Ryan Cubillian ATL B (B+/A-); 5. Bill Aspromonte LAN B (B/B+).

OS23: 1. Joseph Wallace DET A- (A-/A-); 2. Bob Mueller NYN B+ (C+/A+); 3. Moonlight Johnson LAN B+ (C+/A+); 4. Andy Betz DET B+ (B+/B); 5. Rick Fernandez KC B+ (A-/B-)

These write ups are gold. Appreciate the shout out on a few players. Drafting is so tricky. Samba helped me immensely a few seasons back over u2u’s. Changed how I draft.

I’d argue that miles borges should have been included, probably third overall for os21. The fact he’s a catcher is an added bonus. I’d also make noise that Pete Fukahara would get a mention at os21. Horrible D but he will mash.

Keep up the good work!

Happy to see this prospect bounce back with a decent 59 improves last season. Back on track.
