ABE anomaly?

Post by NDPAF »

Bobby Wells, SP of the Montreal Royals, started today’s afternoon game on the mound. Bobby Wells, SP of the Montreal Royals, started today’s evening game....behind the plate?

I assume regular catcher Joseph needed the day off. Backup catcher Jones played 2B. I would think ABE would move Jones to C and a different hitter to 2b before putting a pitcher (with zero energy) behind the plate.

I think the problem is that I have run into multiple infielders being injured at the same time and several other hitters needing a rest day at the same time.

So, Bob Rohr and Gates McClanahan were both injured.

I normally have the following 6 players on the bench:
Bob Burns, 1B/3B
Jack Northrup, OF
Ed Hankinson, OF
Curt Jones, C
Brian Richmond, 2B, SS, 3B
Kerry Beazley, OF

Bob Burns (2B) was already filling in while Bob Rohr was out for 5 days, and was out of energy, so had the day off
Brian Richmond (3B) was already filling in while Gates McClanahan was out (coming back in 3 days) and played in this game at SS.
Also, my C, 1B, LF, RF all needed a day off too.

Only 2 of my regular starters were healthy and available...

So, Out of my usual 6 hitter bench, I had only 5 available (due to Burns resting). I needed to fill 6 spots. So, ABE went with a pitcher to fill the gap. Just a freak thing really..

That's a team player. Only allowed 2 SB, and got BB at the plate.
