Dave Fouts League Scores and Game Summaries

Post by lgcrowder67 »

The Chicago White Sox revived their sagging spirits a bit after dropping two of three on their most recent home stand to Cleveland with wins in the first two games of a three game series in Kansas City against the struggling A's who have lost five straight and trail first place Detroit by eleven games already.

In game one the White Sox recorded a 5-3 victory with Gorge Hesketh stopping the losing skid and notching his 4th win against a single loss. Hesketh lowered his ERA to 2.40 with 8 innings of work allowing 6 hits and 1 run (earned).

Steve Batista picked up his first save this season despite allowing one run on two hits in the 9th inning. Matt Cummings homered with two outs.

The White Sox scored their first run in the 3rd inning off losing pitcher Mark Richardson (2-3). Ed Farmer (.241) singled, stole second base and scored on a ground ball single into the hole just past diving shortstop Curly Cort.

Hesketh is now batting .200 (3-15) with two runs scored and 3 RBI this season.

Jake Smith singled and Charlie White doubled with two outs in the 5th inning to add on a second run. 2-0 White Sox.

The White Sox scored three times in the 7th inning to take a 5-0 lead and control of the game. Pinch hitter Charlie Durbin, batting for Ed Farmer, singled and stole second. Hesketh bunted hard back to pitcher Mark Richardson and his throw to third baseman Matt Cummings nailed the runner.

The second pinch hitter employed by Chicago, John LaPoint, batting for Jake Smith, walked. Richardson struck out Charlie White for the second out of the inning but could not get Joel Hambright and walked him after a long eleven pitch at bat. The tiring Richardson tried to get ahead of John Merritt, but Merritt ambushed him on the first pitch for a two run single.

Right hander Javier Desautels replaced Richardson.

Vicente Lebron solved him for a run scoring single to cap off the inning.

Lou Yett's two run home run in the 8th and Cummings solo blast in the 9th off Batista were just cosmetic scoring in the end.

Game two.............

Chicago 4 Kansas City 2

Willie Mohardt picked up his first victory of the season after suffering three straight losses. Mohardt went 7 innings allowed 7 hits and 2 runs, both earned, walked 3 struck out an impressive 10 batters.

Hank Nelson (8th) and Steve Batista (9th) pitched the final two innings. Batista earned his second save of this series and the season.

Charlie Durbin drove in three runs with a single in the 3rd inning and a two run homer in the 7th inning. Vicente Lebron added a run scoring single off reliever Javier Desautels as Chicago erupted for three runs in the seventh inning of this game just like they did in game one.

And just as they did in game one Kansas City added a late run. Lou Yett scored on a single by Pete Robideaux.

Chicago is now 13-13 (.500) five games behind first place Detroit who defeated Baltimore 9-1.

The loss dropped Baltimore four back and put them in a tie with Washington.

Washington lost to Boston 2-1.

The win was expensive for the Hammers as they lost a main cog in their bullpen, Billy Raffo, for a month or more with a severe shoulder strain.
