Cincinnati 4 Pittsburgh 3 (10 Innings)

The Reds are now 6-2 in extra innings this season.Craig Mele was the starting pitcher for Cincinnati. Mele went seven innings allowed eleven hits three runs all earned walked one struck out nine.

The Reds scored two in the 5th inning to take a 2-1 lead. Ben Hopkins walked Ray Gordon and Matt Bassler, Mele successfully bunted them to second and third. John Bowie's clutch two out double gave the Reds a 2-1 lead.

Mark Magee singled home a run in the 7th to tie the game

Steve Maynard took over from Mele in the 8th after the first two batters reached base. Kirk Walters walked and Dick Partenheimer singled putting runners on first and third with no one out.

Maynard got Charlie Green to fly out to center field. Arlie Breeden grounded out to second for out number two bringing in the run though. Charlie Davis ended the inning by grounding back to the mound. A great relief appearance for Maynard.

The Reds picked up a sweep on the road by shutting out the Phantoms 6-0. Phil Terry allowed just two hits walked three and struck out five. Reporters put the question to Terry after the game as to why so may lead off hitters reached and he explained that he had trouble finding his release point on the first hitter in an inning and the lack of control go him in trouble but as quick as he put himself in trouble he managed to get out of it.

The Reds scored two runs in the 2nd inning. Al Lankford and Ray Gordon both singled putting runners on first and third. Lankford scored on a ground out by Fred Parker. Gordon stole thrid base and then scored on Hendrick's ground ball.

The Reds added three more runs in the 3rd. Bowie walked. Becker reached on an error by shortstop Jeff jonnard and second baseman Matt Magee committed Pittsburgh's second infield error of the game. The error set up Ray Gordon with a chance to drive iin Bowie and Becker with a single. Parker knocked in the Reds 3rd run of the inning 5th of the game...5-0 Reds.

Juan Roberge homered in the 8th to make the final score 6-0.

The standing have tightened up a bit as Brooklyn continues to stumble a bit. The Firebirds dropped two of three to Houston with Houston taking the rubber game of that series 4-3.

Arizona, the second place team failed to take advantage of a loss by the leader. Arizona dropped the fianl of it's series to Los Angeles 6-5.

LA has been very hot down the stretch and may yet win a playoff spot.

Colorado defeated Atlanta 2-1 and is 10 games back in 4th place.
