Cleveland 15 Detroit 5

Red hot Cleveland moved to within two games of first place Detroit with a 15-5 plastering of the Wheels. Cleveland has won seven straight and nine of its last ten.

Reliever Joe Schwabe went three hitless innings allowing two walks and recording a strikeout for his second win this season (2-0).

Schwabe benefitted from a big offensive explosion by his teammates who collect 19 hits and scored 15 times.

Eddie Jones and Bud Secci each post four hits in the game. Secci hit his 5th homerun. Claude Smith added his first of the season for Cleveland and Maurio Norton hit a two run homerun for Detroit.

Texas 6 Baltimore 0

Leo Biitner (3-2) went nine shtout innings allowed just two hits walked four and struck out eight to hand Baltimore a 6-0 defeat.

Biitner pitched out of trouble in the first inning after Chuck Rohr tripled with one out. Bittner struck out two Vaughn with one out and the runner at third and got the final out on a ground out to shortstop.

Bittner walked two in the second inning but again was able to clamp down striking out two in the inning.

Bittner assumed complete control from the fifth to the seventh inning retiring eleven in a row before Mike Carreno double with two outs in the 8th. Biitner got Freddie Landrum to pop out to center field.

Preston Gibson had a two run homerun and Frank Chouneau a solo homer in support of Biitner.

Kansas City A's 7 Boston 1

Last place Kansas City has now won four straight after they hammered Boston 7-1.

White Sox 6 Washington 5

Chicago took the rubber game of a three game set at Comiskey Park II by a score of 6-5.

Washington scored twice in the first inning on a single by Bob Wynn.

Chicago came back in the bottom of the first with two of their own to tie the game 2-2.

Charlie Durbin got the Sox on the board with a lead off homerun off losing pitcher John Grant. Charlie White drew a walk from Grant, advanced to third base on Joel Hambright's single and scored on an infield ground out by Vicente Lebron to tie the game 2-2.

Chicago added a run in the 4th to go up 3-2. John LaPoint hit his 3rd homerun of the season just over the glove of the leaping left fielder.

Washington came back to take a 4-3 lead in the 5th inning on doubles by Sonny Cole and Sam McAllester.

Chicago did not go quietly into the night and came up with a three run rally in the bottom of the 5th inning. Durbin singled, stole second and scored on a double by John Merritt. Merritt tallied the second run on Leblon's double. Lebron scored the final run on John LaPoint's double.

Washington made it a one-run game in the 7th; 6-5.

Bob Duffie singled and scored on a double by McAllester.

Val Brizzolara, victimized in game one, took over for four outs bridging the gap to closer Steve Baptiste who earned his fourth save.
