Cleveland 4 Baltimore 2

Cleveland continues to be a large boulder rolling swiftly downhill in the American League and if first place Detroit does not hear the rumblings, then they are deaf to all things. Cleveland won their ninth straight game on ninth in ten games with 4-2 victory over slumping Baltimore.

Cleveland banged out twelve hits and were led offensively by Taylor Rodriquez who has a run scoring single in the second inning, a double in the fourth nd a two run homerun in the 8th.

Dick Kipper (2-1) was the winning pitcher and closer Mike Buddin earned his 10th save this season. Tony Norwood took the loss for Baltimore dropping to 1-4.

Cleveland has been the hottest team in the league pulling to within two games of front running Detroit. Baltimore

e, on the other hand has been going in the other direction in dropping three straight.

Detroit lost to Texas 5-3 and the Wheels have manage to play only .500 ball over their last ten games.

Chicago 2 Boston 0

Chicago reached the .500 mark a week or so ago and has hovered there since. The White Sox are now 16-16 tied with Baltimore fourth place and determined to get over the hump and above .50 as soon as possible.

Willie Mohart won for the second straight outing improving to 2-3 this season. Mohart went eight inning allowing just two hits, both by Boston centerfielder Herm Outen who had a good defensive showing as well throwing out Jake Smith at the plate to keep the game scoreless in the 6th inning when he tried to score on a single by Charlie Durbin.

Paul Fernandez was also in a good groove and with some good defensive help like that play by Outen held the Sox scoreless until the top of the ninth.

In that inning the Boston right hander failed to get an out giving up a lead off homerun to Charlie White and then a triple to Ed Farmer. Fernandez left for Nick Bell who struck out two before allowing an inherited run to score on a single by Joel Hambright.

Steve Batista has been perfect with five saves in five chances since taking over as the White Sox closer, pitched a scoreless ninth.
