Dave Foutz NL Pennant Race and News with ten games remaining

Cincinnati 10 Colorado 5

Game one of the three game series went to the Reds thanks to a six hit - six run 8th inning gave Cincinnati a 10-5 lead after trailing f-4 going into the inning.Tucker phelps had a two run single, Al Lankford, Jim Mackenzie, and Mike Hardy all had RBI singles.

Jack Dykoff hit his league best 19th homerun for Colorado in the first inning with two on.

Bobby Phillips (2-2) got the win in relief.

Game two

Reds 3 Colorado 0

Tim Downey (3-4) and Bob Zamora (18 saves) combined to shutout Colorado on four hour hits in game two. Downey went eight innings allowqed all four of the hits Colorado amassed and Zamora pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts.

The Reds took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning when Jim Barrett took Tony Winham deep for his 6th of the season.

In the 4th Winham walked the lead off hitter Phelps who stole second. Steve Shinners walked one pitch later. Jim Mackenzie beat out an infield hit to load the bases Mackenzie scored on an error by third baseman Tom Boyle.

2-0 Reds

The Reds added an insurance run in the 5th that was also unearned due to an erro by center fielder Jack Dykoff.

With the end of the season rapidly approaching the Arizona Patriots have reduced their magic number to clinch forst place to 10, and 7 to clinch a playoff spot.

Arizona 8 Houston 6

Houston has been hot winning nine of its last eleven but first place Arizonba colled them off with this 8-6 triumph. Doc Johnson (5-5) went six innings allowed three runs on eight hits for the voictory.

Blackie Reipchlager hit his 18th homer (2nd in the league) with two outs in the 1st inning.Arizona added two more in the 2nd inning on a ground out and an error and another run in the3rd on a single by BillDauer.

Clay Ramos hit his 5th for Houston in the 4th and scored two more in the 5th on a double by Tony Mussina.

Arturo Brown singled home a run in the 6th to make it 5-3.

Dauer's single made it 6-3 in the 7th.

John Bowie doubled in Mike Harper in the 8th and Bobby Jones tallied on a sacrifice fly.

Joe Leitner hit a two run homer for Houston in tje 8th, his 3rd.

8-6 FINALLos Angeles 8 Brooklynb 3

A six run 8th powered los Angels past the defending champions from Brooklyn. Elevan batters paraded to the plate collecting five singles a double and and triple plus one error helped as well.

Chick Fernandez hit his 4th for Brooklyn in the 4th.

Tony Holtzman picked up the win in relief and is now 1-2. Steve Sanders took the loss (4-1).
