White Sox 3 Texas 1

Chicago won it's fifth straight game and thus swept a three game series with troubled Texas who lost their fourth straight. The White Sox winning streak is now the second longest active streak in the American League with Washington's six game streak the longest with Kansas City's win over Cleveland.

The White Sox have benefitted from tremendous pitching over course of the streak and even beyond that. Over the last 45 innings the White Sox staff has allowed just four runs in its last 45 innings for a 0.80 ERA and it lowered the staff's ERA from 3.97 (9th) to 3.84 (7th) in the league.

Chicago has a team batting average of .256 (7th) with only 25 homeruns which is 12th, and 148 runs scored (9th) and has 40 stolen bases (3rd).

Hosken Houk got the win in game three with an impressive 8 innings of work in which he gave up no runs on four hits struck out 3 and walked 1.

Steve Batista continued to pick up saves (8) although for the first time in his last seven outings he allowed a run on two hits.

Scoring in this game....

Sox second inning .. Two subs came through with hits; Ricardo Wells starting at first base doubled and Joe Osdiek, who filled in for Ed Farmer at third, tripled scoring Wells easily. Osdiek came home on a sacrifice fly by shortstop Chip Barbieri.

2-0 Chicago.

In the fifth inning Jake Smith singled to right field to start the frame. Charlie White's single to left advanced him to third base. White stole second without a throw as Smith aggressively came down the line feigning a double steal. After Charlie Durbin popped to short for the first out, John Merritt singled to dive in another run (24 this season..5th in the AL). He missed out on a second RBI on the play when White was thrown out at the plate by center fielder Bill Diaz.

Texas broke up the shut out in the ninth inning off Batista on a double by Charlie Frock and Matt Pico with two outs. Batista got Fred Baker to fly out to left fielder John LaPointe to end the game.

Kansas City 6 Cleveland 1

Not a misprint. The last place A's put an end to the Marauders 12 game winning streak dropping them back into a tie for second with Washington.

Kansas City has won five of its last ten despite playing the best team in the league while the three teams directly in front of them in the standings have all lost eight of ten. If that trend continues the spunk A;s have a chance to climb out of the celler.

The A's jumped out in front 2-0 in the second inning when Cleveland starter Fred Wasdin (LP 2-4) gave up a two run homerun to Pete Robidoux.

Cleveland cut into the lead with a run in the 3rd on a one out double by Jim Clemons and a clutch two out single by Eddie Jones off winning pitcher John Smith (2-4 ).

Sonny Cort walked leading off the 4th, stole second advanced on an infield out and scored on a sacrifice fly by Clemons. 3-1

Matt Cummings walked to start the bottom of the 4th, stole second and scored on Jim Donnelly's single to up the score to 4-1.

In the 8th inning Kansas City iced the game with two more runs off reliever Fred Gomez. Cummings reached on an error by shortstop Rick Kuiper advanced to third on a single by Donnelly and Johnny Turner walked to load the bases.
