Youngstuds make a series of moves.

Post by bpearly69 »

The LA Youngstuds, off to a very quick start, and a sizeable 10 game lead, have been making noise this year off the field as well, recently trading away star Ace pitcher Charlie Lolich for quite the haul of young talent from Detroit, and then went and grabbed some depth pitching afterwards, they could still be in the market for a few other players.

"We like what we have as a team currently, trading away Charlie Lolich was a very difficult move, but we feel like it will help us continue to be competitive for years to come, which as an organization we like to do. We were able to then pick up Paul Somerlott and Jeff Merker, both of those guys have some pretty good upside, and we feel with a change of scenery could help them."

The Youngstuds traded Ed Crompton, who looks to be a solid utility player in the near future, and then a 2nd round pick they acquired from Pittsburgh to pick up the two veteran arms, with a minor league system stock full of young players, they have a few other 2nd rounders they could look to move this year for other pieces.

Detroit feels the Lolich move advanced their rebuild plans to NOW, a year early, and puts the team into contention this year and for the next several.

"We hope we still have enough young talent to support a competitive run for a number of years to keep the fan base happy and the stadium seats full," said front office GM Mark Raymond.

Meanwhile in Baltimore, everyone glances around nervously, wondering who's head is going to roll on account of the Natty Bohs' disappointing performance...
