NL Relievers

Post by gatkeri »

4 of the top 5 finishers for NL Fireman of the year had ERA's of 5.00+, including a 9.00! Seems like they were pouring more gas on the fire rather than putting it out! In fact, of the 16 relievers who had at least 10 saves, only Al Thorpe,BAL had an ERA under 3.00

My guy Turner in Boston was no better with a 4.99 ERA. Guess whose days as a closer are numbered.

3 of the top 5 in the AL had ERA's above 4.5. This is a problem with SD. No matter how dominant a RP's skill ratings are, they still have a 50-50 chance of having a strange year with a ridiculously high ERA.... yet manage 35+ saves. Even my A rated (at the time of being drafted) Thorpe spent 2027 with an ERA well above 4 until the final month of the season (which he gave up no runs at all through 20 appearances). Quite frankly, with his A- velocity and A+ control Thorpe should be posting ERA of below 2 every year.
