The improved fielding of the Philadelphia team is obvious over the last fifteen games. The Athletics have a .990 fielding percentage is much better than the 15th ranking .980%. The A's have five errors over those fifteen games and have turned 16 double plays.

Milwaukee won game two of their series with San Diego 9-6 to keep pace with Pittsburgh who defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-3. In the other game played Florida edged Montreal 4-3.

Philadelphia 8 San Francisco 3

The Philadelphia Athletics scored eight runs on thirteen hits to defeat the Giants 8-2.

In the first Giants starting pitcher Dutch Wickander gave up a run on two hits. Wally Bullinger singled and stole second base (3rd) and scored on a two out single by Tony Tompkins.

A two out single by Bill Smith and stole base combined with a two out clutch single by Dick Smith tied the game 1-1.

In the Giants third inning, a two out double by Jug Magrane, a stolen base (9th) and a clutch single by Bill Diaz scored the tying run. 2-1

Philadelphia broke it open in the 4th inning by scoring five times. Paul Schorr led off with a single. Steinbach doubled scoring Schoor to tie the game 2-2.

A suddenly red hot Dave Ponder singled to right driving in Steinbach. (3-2). Geier bunted Ponder to second. Bullinger singled in Ponder 4-2 and Danny Vernon drew a walk. Rupe Lewis doubled driving in Bullinger and Vernon. (6-2)

Rod Fernandez replaced Wickander (3.2IP 10H 6R/6ER 1BB/4SO) (LP3-5).

Fernendez got Tompkins out on a flyball to cener field.

Paul Schorr added a solo homerun in the 5th inning and Orlando Criscola hit a pinch hit homerun on the 9th inning to make the final score 8-2.

Sam Geier went all nine innings to up his record to 4-2. Geier allowed two runs on five hits walked one and struck out one.
