National League score;

Houston (a whole bunch) Atlanta (not quite as many)

Football score in a baseball game as Houston roasted Atlanta on a George Foreman grill 20-7. It was hot in Houston, but it was the Houston bats that were hottest as the Houston lineup combined for 20 runs on 18 hits to pin a humiliating 20-7 loss on visiting Atlanta.

Bob Rader gave up all 14 hits for Atlanta and seven runs but went the distance for the win (2-4). A. J. Spellbauer scored three runs on two hits including his 5th homer to drive in four runs in the game. Roberto Rodriquez hit his 1st of the season scored three times as well and Wayne Powell three hits 4 RBI with two doubles and a triple.

Marty Perez hit two homers in the losing effort, his 8th and 9th of the year.

American League

Los Angeles defeated Tampa Bay 6-4.

Tampa's lead over OakLand and Kansas City is now one game.

Oakland won 5-0 shuting out Toronto to win its8th game in last ten and 5th straight.

Washington rebounded to take Minnesota 5-3 for a much need w for them.

Kansas City 5 Boston 4

The A's won their third straight to improve to 22-13 one game behind Tampa. Kansas City defense allowed two unearned runs on two errors in this game.

Boston took the early lead in this contest with two runs in the 1st inning off Ross Bartell who started slow but figured things out and went on to pitch for eight innings giving up nine hits and three runs, two earned, walked two and had six strikeouts. Jeff Blackwell (RBI double and an error on third baseman Chet Gregg).

Well led off the 3rd inning with a walk. Bartell got the first of two excellent bunts he had in the game down to advance him to second. Mathews lined very hard back to the pitcher for the second out. Gregg atoned for his error with his second homerun this season to put the A's in front 2-1.

In the bottom of the 5th Wells once again led off but this time with a base hit to center field. Bartell attempted to sacrifice him to second but his bunt was perfect and he beat it out for a infield single. Mathews forced Bartell at second with Wells moving to third base. Mathews stole second (11th). Gregg popped to third.

A wild pitch by Rich Copper allowed Wells to score and a single by McCall got Mathews in for a 4-0 lead.

Pinch hitter Chtris Riley doubled in the 7th and McCall singled him in to make it 5-2 and single runs in the final two innings for Boston made it a 5-4 one run game.

Julio Canate then picked up his 6th save despite allowing an unearned run in the 9th inning on a throwing error on his catcher C.J.Wells.
