Two clubs in the American League remain undefeated after three games, Los Angeles and Kansas City. Los Angeles went 48-33 tied with Tampa Bay for the best record in the league and Kansas City was third at 48-33.

Both teams managed sweeps of their opening series. Los Angeles batted just .198 in their series with Minnesota and scored just ten runs so the Los Angeles pitching staff holding Minnesota to just four runs and a .200 batting average. Their ERA was 1.20 in the series, best in the league.

Los Angeles scored five runs on seven hits in game three but were outhit by Minnesota 10-7 in the game but they came up two runs short.

LA scored one run in the second inning on a triple by George Chacon and a sacrifice fly by Chester Chapman.

Minnesota tied it in the top of the 3rd inning. Bill Rasmeussen doubled to right field and Candy Regan drove in the tying run with a single to left field. (1-1).

Los Angeles took command scoring four times. Sid Olwine walked Bret Southworth to start the inning. Pitcher Al Jurges failed to get a bunt down then popped out to second. Olwine then walked George Cole. Tubby Johnson doubled to right field scoring both Southworth and Cole. Joe Schwenk homered with one on for a 5-1 lead in route to a 5-3 final.

Kansas City 9 Oakland 8

Former Kansas City closer Noodles Giebell has 29 career save and is a two time All Star. However this season the team has decided he is a set up man for Perry Webster and Giebell has appeared twice faced two batters, struck them both out and when the team rallied in the next inning to win the game he got both wins.

Said Noodles; ''Loving this. Greatest start ever by anyone..I strikeout every batter I face this season, win 40 something games pitching 20 something innings and I go into the Hal of Fame....yeah right it ain't gonna happen.''

Another Kansas City player has had a great start with the bat. Shortstop Bill McCall who won his second Gold Glove was the MVP and an All Star with 20 homers, 58 RBI and a .337 batting average. McCall hit his 2nd homerun of this season in the first inning. It came with the bases loaded giving McCall two grand slams already this season and 10 RBI, both his homers and RBI totals are tops in the league.

Rookie Billy Gibbs went two for three in his first start at second base and hit his first career homerun in the inning as well giving the A's a 5-1 lead.

Oakland scored two runs off Mattias Rodriquez in the first inning on a two run homerun by shortstop Tiny Roberts and chipped away at the lead with runs in the 34th and 5th inning on a homerun by Bill Hill to close within 5-4.

Oakland took a 7-5 lead in the bottom of the 8th off Ed Benton. Benton's control, or lack of it, got him into trouble. Benton walked the lead off batter, Greg Bloodworth. Hill flied to deep right field for the first out. Chuck Hinzu doubled to left field. Benton walked Dave Cooper to load the bases with one out. Myrl Perez doubled clearing the bases bringing the noodle man into the game and Giebell struck out Tiny Roberts to end the inning with .

Jordan Hiller took the mound in the 9th to finish the game for Oakland looking to salvage one game of the series leading 7-5. Oakland fell apart completely in the inning. Jordan hit pinch hitter Ed Kerr to start the inning. Kerr stole second. A passed ball on catcher Greg Bloodworth moved him to third with no one out. Steve Blue struck out while all this was happening for the first out. Chris Riley walked to put runners on first and third with one out. John Mathews hit a three run homerun to give Kansas City an 8-7 lead.

Bill McCall hit his second homer of the game giving him 3 homeruns and 11 runs batted in for the season.

Perry Webster gave up a run scoring double to Bill Hill in the bottom of the 9th but preserved the lead for his second save.

Kansas City continues its six game road trip with three games against 2-1 Washington.
