The LA Lemmings tied Tampa Bay for first place in 1951 but fought through the playoffs to lose the World Series to cross town rival Los Angeles Skyhawks.

The Lemmings who have had two five game winning streaks this season now have suffered their first substantial losing streak albeit only three games at this point. The Lemmings have scored nine runs during the losing streak while allowing twenty-four.

The last defeat came in 12 innings to resurgent Boston.

Aaron Hrabosky (2-0) picked up the win going three innings (three hits two strikeouts). Starting pitcher Jesse Camacho went six innings allowed six hits and three runs walked four and struck out just one.

Rich Cooper pitched the bottom of the 12th for his first save.

Tubby Johnson hit his 3rd homer for Los Angeles, a solo shot in the two run LA 3rd inning.

Joe Macado hit his first homerun for Boston in the 4th.

Washington moved into a tie for first place with Los Angeles after defeating Los Angeles in the final game of their series to start the Los Angeles losing streak and winning the first two of a three game set with Oakland; 4-3 in 12 innings, with Wally Gilbert (1-0) getting the win.

Kevin Carew beat the throw home to score from third base to end the extra inning affair.

John Guillen got his second win on the campaign going seven and one third innings. Guillen gave up one in-earned run on three hits walked five struck out 9. Danny Kinkade got the final three outs for his fourth save.

Washington left fielder Jesse Campbell was lost for three weeks with a back injury.

Kansas City 6 Tampa Bay 2

The Kansas City Athletics have won five straight to move to within one game of first place.

Tim Neilson gave the team a much needed eight ad two thirds innings in this start to give an overextended bullpen some rest. Pablo Herrera, a throw in in a recent trade got the final out of the game after Tampa rallied for two runs in the ninth against a tiring Neilson.

Kansas City broke the game open with five runs in the first two innings.

The A's scored four in the first inning off Tampa Bay starting pitcher Andy Dropo (LP 1-1 8 IP 5H 6R/3ER 5BB/3SO)

Lead off batter Steve Blue walked. John Mathews singled to center field. Mike Jackson walked to load the bases. Tampa shortstop Gaylen Rachounok booted a grounder hit by Joe Knorr allowing two runs (Blue - Mathews) to score. Veteran Elmer Riggan doubled driving in Jackson and Knorr.

Blue hit a solo homerun in the second giving Kansas City a 5-0 lead that Neilson held until the ninth inning.
